I need your recommendations for a hotel by the port to stay the night before our Sept 4, 2004 cruise. I just called the Raddison and they want $125.00 for standard room, and RonJons wants $160.00 for a studio.

So what to do! I guess I goofed up here and should have done this when I booked my cruise last month, But I figured since it's Sept. the crowds were less and therfore prices would be a little resonable. NOT SO!

Im told its the HIGH SEASON, and I forgot it's Labor day weekend. So Now Im not sure what to do. Is the Rad worth it with the parking? 7 Days for $70 port parking. I figure the room is really approx $55... I know I know Im trying to justify the price, BUT I dont know now. I need your opinions here, or other recommmendations for the night before stay.

We booked at the Day's Inn. We only need a place to sleep. I'm not looking for a fab place with a water park, just a place to hang our heads for the night with free parking.

I think for the 3 of us, it was $82.90 total (room was $65) with the bus/cab trip to the cruise.

Sure, I'd like a nicer hotel, but we're driving so we won't have a lot of energy to do much besides sleep and eat. This hotel is near the pier so we can walk around a bit too and find a decent restaurant.

Hope that helps... They were very nice when I called the Day's Inn. (If that counts for anything!)

You can stay at the Radisson without paying the Cruise Parking Room Rate.

Many folks have done this with just the standard room rate and had no problems. We have stayed at the Radisson plenty of times....but we only paid $99 per night for the 2 room king jacuzzi suite. It is all supply and demand.

Another option is to do Priceline....we got 2 different hotels in the Port area for only $39.00 each. They were further away from the Radisson and did not have shuttles, but we had a rental car so it was no big deal.

I did not even mention the cruise I was calling for prices, then after the price I mentioned the cruise. I read many post where prices were up and down at the raddison, so I guess I'm one on the upswing here. Im driving down from NYC and I too just wanted a place to relax prior to boarding with some parking while Im crusing, I'll keep looking, but maybe I will go back to my orignal plan.

Stay in Kissimmee then drive over in the morning and pay the parking. Im confused now. BUT $160.00 is outragous for 1 night... "Im the other fella." I was also hopong to book a room once I got off the ship that Sat. for about 3 nights before driving back to NYC.

But please keep the info coming.

This helped me make my decision... Do a search on hotels.com and write in "Kennedy Space Center" locale. You get a list and can either look at their websites individually, or start calling the 800 numbers.

Dave's site (DCLtribute) is very informative, as is Passporter, but the later only mentions a few hotels.

It's all in what you want. A terrific hotel with a water park, restaurant, parking, etc. or just a place to stay. You can always park near the ship for $10/day too. I prefer leaving our car in the hotel parking lot and getting either a shuttle or local cab.

I respect the research that Dave and Passporter did. I posted a thread awhile back and while the Day's Inn isn't luxury accommodations, it's supposed to be clean and close by. Again, Dave painstakingly put the pros and cons of each (and proximity to the ship) on his website.

Go to the Radisson website - do a search for Radisson and put in Port Canaveral - and see if they have an internet rate. We booked the week before - Aug 27 - for $85. It's non refunable though.

We'll be getting off the day you get on. We'll try and keep the ship in good order for you!

This year we are staying at the Radisson. We booked online the Internet Saver Rate Deluxe Stateroom for $93.50 with taxes.

Last year we stayed in Titusville, which was only a short drive away from Port Canaveral, at the Days Inn, and only paid $39.95.

I usually do a Priceline room. All the hotels in the Cocoa Beach area have a shuttle for $3 per person, but it sounds like you will have a vehicle. IF it is a rental, it is cheaper to turn it in and get it again after the cruise. If it is your vehicle, yes, you get to pay for parking.

Priceline rooms are usually in the $30 - $35 range plus a $7 processing fee....so for about $40, I have a room for the night. If you go to www.biddingfortravel.com, there is lots of good information as well as lists of hotels in each * category. You can choose to stay in the Orlando/MCO/Disney area or in the Cocoa Beach area. Many of the hotels include breakfast. The only kicker is that Priceline rooms are technically for 2 people. However, most places have a "kids stay free" policy, so it's not a big deal. I call before and make sure that we have a room with 2 beds (you can be in a King room). I was nervous the first time I did Priceline, but it worked out great and I do it all the time now.

Priceline rooms do tend to vary in price depending on how full the hotel is, but I don't like to wait till just before and hope....I'm paranoid and book a month or so in advance.

You'll have many more options if you're willing to stay in the WDW/MCO area the night before and drive in the morning....also, check out the hotel's internet rates, which are frequently less than the "call" rate. Also, check out Expedia.com or other travel services for the Kennedy Space Center/Cocoa Beach area...specials abound!

We stayed at the MOTEL 6 for 41.00 the night before the cruise last April.

I booked through Orbitz.com

It was a pretty large room, clean with no fancy stuff. It met our needs for one night.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions my search continues. Im just trying to figure out my options now. I keep hearing about the ants and really dont want the car filled with'em since it would be there for 7 days. But my concern is leaving the car at the hotel now. since Im not familiar with the area and only going by what I read here it appears the rad is a safe place to park for the week.

But then again Im sure there are others. I was looking at the site mentioned here... @ dotterson was this the days inn you mentioned? http://www.daysinncocoabeach.com/ If so was it nice enough? It looks ok from what I see. did you feel leaving your car there was safe? Thats one of my concerns.

Again this is only for the night before, Im gtting Good Rates for Villas for the end of my cruise, in Kissimmee. Thanks gang.

PS Karel

Yes please Im so looking forward to this. ::yes::

But, the Day's Inn uses the Rad's parking lot!!!! We were just going for the bucks saved, not the pool or anything since we're driving all day...

I'm a bit scared of doing a Priceline or such. You don't really know *which* hotel they are, tho you can guess by the descriptions. (3* or whatever).

I think if the car is locked and there isn't any food in it, you're safe from the ants. Since we have a 'heads up' on that, we'll be really careful eating in it (which my hubbie doesn't allow in the car anyway!!!!!!)

Looked at the flight prices and there's no way we'll spend almost $700 for the 3 of us when we can drive for less and stay in the hotel.

Good luck in your search! Man, we have over 165 days, and I can't stand the waiting!!!!!!

P.S. That's the right Day's Inn (Cocoa Beach).
