Hotel/Resort recommendations for LA/Santa Monica...

We're spending 4 nights in LA/Santa Monica at the end of our month long trip to the US...any recommendations on a great place to stay?

As its the last leg of our trip we wouldn't mind going out with a bang and splurging a little bit

About 5 years ago we stayed at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica and it was 5 star, walk to pier, Venice beach. Absolutely the best place if available.
