I am trying to find information on the cost of cancellation fees for staying at a Disney hotel. I am seeing fees for 30 or less days out, but nothing beyond that.

I ask because I want to ensure I can hold a reservation down at location I want in September, but work won't let me know if I can have the dates I want off until at least June, possibly even later. Worse case scenario, I wont know until much later and again, I want to make sure that I can hold down a reservation at Deluxe resort for the time I want to go.

I have also heard about differing answers regarding if the deposit is refundable but I know that up until your PIF (which is typically 30 days) there is no cancellation fee. I'm not too sure if the deposit is refundable but depending on your situation it could be transferable.

This is Disney's cancellation policy when you book directly through Disney for room only reservations:

CANCELLATION POLICY:
In order to receive a full refund of guest’s deposit, notification of cancellation must be received at least 5 days prior to guest’s arrival date. To cancel or modify an existing reservation, call (800) 647-7900. Additionally, if the guest is holding any other types of reservations, such as dining, those reservations will not be cancelled unless you advise us to cancel them.

I booked a package, tickets and hotel, and was worried about the same issue with my husbands work. I asked a CM through online chat before booking and was told I could cancel without penalty up to 30 days before my trip.

I know from experience that if you put down a night's deposit for your reservation, it is fully refundable. The deadline for the full refund differs for a package (either 30 or 45 days, I believe- not sure), or a non-package reservation (5 days before- but again, not sure, look it up for details).

What I can tell you unequivocally is that the initial deposit is fully refundable if you're doing it months in advance as you describe. I've cancelled advance reservations before & gotten my full deposit back multiple times.

Just to be absolutely clear: the initial deposit is fully refundable ONLY if you cancel before the deadline. That deadline is 5 days before your stay begins if you have a room only reservation, and 30 days before if you have a vacation package. In the OPs case, since he says he may not know until very late, he might want to consider getting just a room reservation.

Excellent advice. If you are going for free-dining September, you will have to book a package and you lose a lot of money if you cancel within 30 days from the trip.

Room only is a safer bet if you won't know until a couple of weeks from your arrival night.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I would only be doing a room reservation and nothing added package wise.

For those wondering, I'm a cast member so I want to lock in myour cast discounted room before they are all snatched up for the week I am going, but if you know Disney, we only know we have our vacation time off 3 to 4 months in advance, and if it's not accepted, we have to try to get it with only 2 weeks notice.
