Hotel recommendations in London post-cruise

OT - but the Royal Horseguards will always have a special pace in my heart. In 2005 DH was deployed and managed to get a few days leave at Christmas. We decided to meet in London to save him time coming all the way back to the states. I arrive on Christmas Eve morning to find a message from him at the front desk that his leave had been canceled. Wasn't the first time, or the last, and I was disappointed but fine. The hotel staff was very concerned for me being on my own at Christmas. My room was a beautiful corner room with windows on both sides and a view of the river and London Eye. I am sure this was an upgrade as we booked a standard. I also did not pay for a meal at the hotel for the next three days. I felt very (unnecessarily) pampered.

That is so special. That's what compassion and customer service is all about:-)

We stayed at the Premier Inn at King's Cross for 2 days after our cruise. Very convenient, almost directly across from the train (tube!) station. Bonus points if you're a Harry Potter fan!

It's a nice, clean, budget friendly chain of hotels all across London. We stayed in the one in Heathrow Airport the night we arrived and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. If there is one located in the area you're interested in staying, I'd definitely look into it.

This is exactly what I was going to say! We have stayed there twice both pre- and post cruise as the train to and from Dover arrives and departs from Kings Cross/St. Pancras.
Nice hotel. We also took the tube to Heathrow from there since we were a party of 6 and it was cheaper than cabs or hiring a van to take us.

Sounds like we did the exact same thing! The Heathrow Express to the airport on the day we left was really convenient and really not that much trouble, even with luggage.

Love all the suggestions for London hotels for when the world opens up again . . . can't wait. Wanted to mention that there is a cheaper (and just as easy) alternative to the Heathrow Express which is £25. It's called the TFL and works with the Oyster card (which I bought at the airport) and it's half the cost. Leaves from the SAME place as the Heathrow Express and also goes to Paddington. Takes 30 minutes instead of 15. Makes a couple stops on the way. Big deal! There is a screen above the track that tells you which train is arriving next, so you get on the right one.

Here is the info:

The TFL Express (30 minutes) at 11 pounds is much more affordable than 25 pounds Heathrow Express (15 minutes).

The real bargain is the 5.50 pound 90-day advance ticket on the Heathrow Express. Has anyone used one of these cheap tickets on the Heathrow Express?

Yes, they are great. You just need to have your travel set 90+ days out.

That is amazing! I just booked at this hotel.
