We are going on the Disney Wonder Cruise to Mexico in September but don't know what hotel we should book the night before that doesn't break the bank. Any recommendations?

My son and his fiancee booked the Hyatt right next to the port for their honeymoon cruise in May. The pictures are amazing.

Have fun!

If you don't need to be super close to the port, Priceline (name your own price) or Hotwire would probably give you the most bang for your buck.

We went over Thanksgiving week (not for a cruise) and got the Omni for $80/night. It was very nice and looks like it's 1.5 miles from port.

There is no Hyatt "right next to the port". The Manchester Grand Hyatt is just under a mile away from the B Street Terminal.

IMHO, The Grand Hyatt is not worth the price. I have stayed there for work (they pay, I do not) 20 or 30 times over the past 10 years, despite the fact that I live a few miles away. The parking was $60 a night the last time I checked.

There is a brand new Springhill Suites and Residence Inn (they share a building being that they are both Marriott properties) and they are directly across from the B Street Terminal (where DCL docks). There is also a Wyndam at the port, but I think it is mostly used as a park and cruise hotel. A few blocks inland from the port is the Westin.

There's a Hampton Inn very close to the terminal. I popped into the lobby to use the wifi while the kids were playing at the nearby playground when we ended a cruise there this summer. It seemed very nice and it gets good reviews. I'm considering it for an upcoming trip and the prices are reasonable.

What's the name of the area that I should enter when looking up hotels n Expedia? There is a drop down filter with location names like Legoland, etc.

How about the Wyndham San Diego Bayside? I have never stayed here, but I think you cant beat the location directly across the street from the port. Seems reasonably priced too.

Definitely NOT Legoland...or Mission Valley, Beach Cities, Old Town, Central San Diego. Downtown covers a broad area (some great and some rough). I'm assuming you want to be close to the airport and terminal?

On the map, you will see Waterfront Park, Little Italy and Downtown. Anything in the vicinity of that area is good. I would not stay East of 7th or 8th or South of Park. The cruise ship terminal is between Ash and Broadway.

Best Western Bayside Inn is pretty good! Free Shuttle to Airport, Amtrak and Cruise port. I live in San Diego, and downtown is really nice!

We stayed at a Holiday Inn Express before our cruise. They offered a shuttle from the airport, to the cruise, and also to the San Diego Zoo. We arrived a couple days early to take our kids there. Free breakfast too and it wasn't super pricey.

Wow! Pardon me.

That's about $500 to $700 per night. We don't want to spend that much

They are holding their wedding in a Hyatt in Ft. Lauderdale so they are receiving a ton of points. They lucked out to be able to book it all on points. They could never afford to pay cash for it. I had no idea it was that steep.

Glad the prices are lower for the wedding hotel, whew.

It seems like a lot of hotels by the port I'm looking up have free shuttles to the port. I think that's great

On B Street which is close to the trolley on C St. You could go Mission Valley in Hotel Circle, and then take a trolley with a Daypass (unlimited bus and trolley transportation and then either walk or take the 992 bus to the terminal (though not recommended if you have lots of luggage. Hampton inn is also good and not far from the port.

I have to agree with Marriot Springhill or Residence Inn. It is nestled right between the B Street Pier and the Train station (Amtrak/local metro train). We got off the Wonder at the pier, and the hotel is right across the street. Walk one block farther and there is the train station. We took the metro (super easy) and went to Old Town SD, checked out the shops, ate, and meandered around took Amtrak home the next day. No waiting on shuttles or taxis. We are doing the same thing in reverse in October when we take the Wonder to Panama. Except stopping at DL for MNSSHP.

The Amtrak station is easy walking distance from the pier, so you could stay pretty much anywhere on the Pacific Surfliner route. In fact we'll be taking the train from Anaheim for our trip in May.

Schedule for the 992, but it is walkable, but walking not recommended for lots of luggage. 992 buses can accommodate luggage if it is the smaller bus, but sometimes our transit system runs the big 40' buses which do not have the luggage racks.
