Not sure the price of Grand Californian is worth it? Any other place better as far as amenities, cleanliness, and atmosphere? Never been to Disneyland or California. Thanks

Too vague. What specific amenities are you looking for? There’s an array of hotels surrounding DLR catering toward all budgets. The DLR hotels are nice, but you can get more hotel for a lot less money elsewhere.

The JW Marriott has an option to book that’s “queen queen connecting rooms”
So 4 queen beds in total and two full bathrooms.

With 4 adults this is the configuration I’d want.
The JW Marriott is a beautiful hotel, a bit farther than I prefer to stay, but there’s always Lyft.
(It’s also on the ART line)

Exactly my question. More hotel for less money.

Is that booked through their website?

Good to know!

There is nothing near Disneyland with the atmosphere to match the on-site hotels, but I would also recommend the Westin for an upscale type hotel. Most everything around Disneyland is just a place to rest your head in between ventures into the park. If you have the cash and want to splurge there is no substituting being in the bubble or the GCH or DLH. Then again, for every night you stay at those hotels, you can stay at an offsite hotel for 5 to 6 nights.

When it comes to value, it's highway robbery.

One night at the GCH starts at about $700; divided by 5 or 6 would be $115-$140. Good luck finding that rate even at the Harbor Blvd. motels. But you could do a couple of nights at the JW Marriott or Westin for the cost of one night at the GCH.

Value is in the eye of the beholder.

One night at GCH is $850-$1050 most of the year. It would require a sale to get that $700 rate, and most sales require 3 or (more commonly) 4+ nights.

Most of the year, for what Disney charges for one night at the GCH, you can get 5 nights at top hotels like Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton - all within a 20 minute walk of Disney, or directly across the street from Toy Stoy parking lot.

There are plenty of solid hotels where you could get 6 nights. Heck, much of the year you could book nearly 7 at the Doubletree Orange. Only a couple miles from DLR and walkable but not a walk many would take. Sadly, they recently discontinued their free shuttle but the ART makes a stop.

Value is in the eye of the beholder.

Not everything has value. Think about fuel service on a rental car. Businesses purchase it because the employees’ time is more valuable. Financially established people purchase it for convenience. But what about the oodles of people who live paycheck-to-paycheck and are always juggling their bills - what value do they get from it? None, they purchase it because they want it.

Same with Disney. There’s a ton of money in SoCal, which is why premium rooms at GCH sell out so quickly. But many people stay there simply because they want it and can’t say no. Same reason glorified motor lodge like the All-Stars goes over $300/night. When we stayed there last fall, our neighbors were celebrating high school graduation and you literally could hear, um, everything. Well late into the night… which is why they pounded on our wall the second our alarm went off.

Oh, okay, I didn't realize there was a sale going on now.

I looked at the Westin and Marriott and they were in the $250-$300 range, which would give you 3-4 nights compared to one night at the GCH.

I don't know what "fuel service on a rental car" is. Is that when you pay up front to not have to return the car with a full tank? In any event, that's different from choosing a hotel. With a rental car, one way or another you have to pay for the gas you use. With DL hotels, you have many options, and different people will consider different factors (location, room size, pool, etc. etc.) when determining the value of each hotel to them personally.
