I will be visiting the DLR in March. Right now I'm trying to decide between three hotels -- the Candy Cane Inn or the Anaheim Residence Inn by Marriott (GCH and DLH aren't available on my dates).

I know where the Candy Cane Inn is (very close) but I'm not sure about the hotel quality. How is it there?

If we stay at the Residence Inn we'd only need one room, but I'm not sure how far away it is from the entrance. Is it within walking distance, and is it a nice hotel?

Also....we're planning on a trip to Universal Studios Hollywood. Is there any shuttles that leave from the DL area hotels to the park?

Thanks in advance for any help. :D

Candy Cane rates 2nd, and Residence Inn 23rd on www.tripadvisor.com so that might help you decide - it's a 2 block walk, though most think that is too far and you have to pay to use their shuttle.

I stayed at the Howard Johnson and couldn't be happier - great value and a 10 minute walk.

There were plenty of shuttles and tours to universal studios, including some that combined a day at the park with a tour of LA.

We stayed at the Candy Cane in 2001. It's a motel, but the landscaping is quite nice and the rooms are large and clean and include a fridge (we didn't discover it until the last day - we thought it was cabinet!).

Candy Cane is not a long walk at all - in fact I bet it's much shorter than walking from DLH to DL. Unlike most of the other hotels, you are on the same side of Harbor as the parks (it's basically built on a corner carved out of the Disney propoerty). While it is about 2 blocks, you don't need to cross any major streets to get into the parks, and the walk is quite pleasant.

Residence Inn on Harbor is a great property. I stayed there last month and it was fantastic. Too far to walk, but they do have a free shuttle.

The HoJo is also a great property. Closer for walking, and they have an ART stop right at the hotel.

Mary Jo posted interior photos of the Residence Inn. And, remember that they have a free breakfast there in the mornings...
