What would you recommend (HOJO's appears to be sold out)

Best Western Park Place Inn
Park Vue Inn
Desert Inn and Suites

I'm looking for something clean and w/in walking distance, as we have a 2 year old.

A friend of mine recently stayed at Park Vue Inn. She said it was okay, but didn't look too enthused. I stayed at DI&S quite a few years ago and would never stay there again. Their ownership hasn't changed, so I can't imagine that the problems would either. There were a number of customer service issues, parking was always a problem (1 per room, but none left for DH one night and no one cared), everythng was old and dingy (carpet filthy turned our socks black, old bedding, walls looked like had thick layers of paint over stuff-- they didn't sand or prime it obviously), room was very small and cramped feeling, old appliances (micro was ancient even then), the enclosed pool area was difficult to breathe in because of the chlorine in the air, the Cont. Breakfast was dried up pastries and donuts and they ran out of coffeee and said tough luck. Need I say more? I didn't like DI&S and because the customer service was so poor I won't stay there again. Unfortunately, we pay the price of location and convenience. Good luck finding a good place to stay.
I know at Laughing Place dot com a lot of people used to rave about BWPPI, but I haven't lurked around there in a while... Several people over there on LP had similar problems like I did at DI&S and even worse. (Like being double billed for room and manager refusing to credit them at all --they had to dispute w/ CC company.) DI&S is not (AFAIK) a Good Neighbor Hotel anymore even thought they still display the logo on their website.

Hello KailuaGirl -

Recently we stayed at the Carousel. It isn't on your list, but we liked it. I got a good deal on Orbitz. Beds are comfy, it was clean and the continental breakfast, although not fancy, was sufficient to starting our day.

We have also stayed at the Fairfield and really liked it too. Their beds and rooms are really nice (IMHO).

We have stayed at the Park Place Inn as well as the Desert Inn and Suites, both were fine. Clean and close. I also believe both offer a continental breakfast which is nice.

I think Desert is usually a little cheaper.

We have reservations at HOJO for July. I initially booked BWPPI for the location (right across the park) but we deicded to go with HOJO for the great comments, water area and new kids suite. I would keep calling HOJO to confirm availability.

I think BWPPI gives a 15% discount for AAA and entertainment rate.

We've stayed at Fairfield in a while agao and that was nice and clean too. I think they are in the 3 for 5 deal on Get Away Today.

OT - I am headed back to Oahu and Kauai this summer! I cannot wait! I tell people all the time that our favorite vacations are Disneyland and Hawaii.

This will be my sixth trip and I absolutely love it. Oahu holds a very special place in my heart and we always spend 4 or 5 nights there before going to a quieter island.

I cannot wait to have malasadas at Leanords and shave ice at Matsumotos!

Yep, we are from Kailua Small world!!!

We are just gonna miss each other by a week or so Good idea to keep checking with HOJO. That seems to be just about everyone's first choice.

SeattleTink, you are smart for not spending your whole time on Oahu. I always recommend to everyone to go to an outter island also. Have fun and let me know if you need any tips or suggestions

If we can't get into HOJO, DI is usually our next choice. We've never had a problem with the service or the cleanliness. The only time we had any issues was when a couple of young kids were playing outside at the crack of dawn and that was really a non issue. We always arrive early and have been able to check in upon arrival. Parking is tight but since we leave the car parked the whole time we're there it's not been an issue. We've also never partaken of their breakfast but I've been told several times it's nothing to write home about. We find it easier to bring our own from home anyway. There is a fridge afterall. I htink I have pics on here somewhere if you want to see them. I forgot to take pics of my HOJO room last trip.

I've never stayed at the Park View or BWPPI. Both are always more than I am willing to pay and BWPPI rarely has a room the size we want available. That said, I have a friend who spent two or three weeks there with her family when they came to the States from Australia. They were very pleased.

I have another friend who won't stay anywhere but the Annabella and another who raves about the Carousel Inn.

My DD has stayed at the Tropicana on a school trip. We were in her room long enough to grab her bags at the end of the trip but it was a decent looking room and the 4 girls has plenty of space.

We've done Anaheim Plaza before as well. Our room was big, clean, and mostly quiet. The shower next door woke us up every morning and the maid's cart was loud as it rolled across the cracks in the concrete. I thought the desk staff was slightly rude to another guest but they were more than pleasant and helpful to me. It's about the same distance as HOJO in the opposite direction. Oh, and they charge for parking. I might have pics of this room too.
