We are considering a trip between Christmas and New Years. We will have my MIL, FIL, myself hubby, 13, 9 and 7 year old daughters and possibly BIL. 7 year old has a wheelchair that we will need to fit in room but she is mobile.

We have stayed off site before but would like to consider stayin on site. The Deluxe resorts will likely be too expensive. Does anyone have some guidance on what might be good options for us to consider?

Are you looking to stay in one room or are you open to two? If two rooms, it opens up all sorts of possibilities at different price points. If one room, you're going to find yourself limited to 2+ bedroom suites at the villas. None of the value, moderate, or deluxe rooms can accommodate 7-8 people.

Do you need an accessible room? That might limit your options some, especially at that time of year which is so popular. If you don't need the accessibility features, a standard wheelchair will fit into any room, you just may need to shift furniture a bit if it doesn't fold.

As PP asked, are you willing to split into multiple rooms (no guarantee of connecting)? If splitting, do you want your nuclear family (5) in 1 room or are you OK putting one of the girls with grandma and grandpa? Presumably BIL will be in that room also, so I don't know how you feel about that option.

I believe the only moderates that sleep 5 in a regular room are POR Bayou rooms and CBR which have an extra murphy bed for a child. The Cabins at at FW or a suite at CSR are also moderate options. At the values you will need to do a family suite to get 5 in one room; if you split 4+4 you can do 2 standard rooms. Deluxe resorts offer more options for 5 in a room. DVC also offers options for your whole party.

Enjoy your vacation!

We are open to one or two rooms. Even if we don't get a connecting room, is it likely that the rooms will be located near each other?

How do I find out which hotels do have connecting room options?

We do not need an accessible room, but we have stayed in many hotels and some of them are harder to fit my daughter's wheelchair in. It can fold up, but it is bulky, so I'm just wanting to make sure that we aren't going to be super cramped if it is not an accessible room.

The girls will likely rotate sleeping in Grandparents room because it's a special treat to them, so we can do 4 in our room. If BIL comes and we are not in a suite, he will likely have his own room (he is mid 30's).

If we stay in Value rooms, is there one that is nicer or has more space in the rooms? It's not huge issue as we won't spend a lot of time there, I'm just curious. I'm thinking there are floor plans that I can find online?

Thank you all for your help!

If you go to **************.net - there are room plans for each resort. Personally, I would rather do two rooms so you can have space for your family vs the in-laws. Also, you can ensure that charges are allocated separately. Personally, I would go moderate. I think you might find with your in-laws that they need a little more down time at the resorts.

All resorts have at least some connecting rooms. You can request connecting, or at least adjoining (nearby), but there is no guarantee rooms will be on the same floor or even the same building. WDW does try to honor such requests so you might get it.

A moderate will give you more space. You might find it cramped with 5 guests, but if one girl will spend the night with the grandparents it shouldn't be a problem. For reference, people can fit full ECVs in the rooms. You may need to shift furniture a bit like the table and chairs, but the wheelchair will fit especially if it folds.

Value resorts -- Art of Animation is the newest, though most rooms are suites and the standard Little Mermaid rooms are quite popular. My family likes Pop Century, but we have also stayed in the All Stars and enjoyed checking out all 3 food courts and walking the groups of all 3 to see the different theming. I believe the regular rooms are all the same size across any of the values. The value resorts have double beds while the moderate resorts have queens.

We have stayed in the ASMu family suites, which do offer a bit more room and an extra bathroom. AoA also has family suites.

If you want to be on site have you looked into renting points foe a DVC villa? IDK what the availability will be at that time of year, and while not as cheap as a value or even a mod, it will have you on site all in one villa.

OKW villas are the least expensive and they are very large. AKL is also lower on the price point and the theming is fabulous.

The family suites and the suites at AoA only sleep 6, plus 1 child under the age of 3. Still not enough room for the OP.

Oh, I know that. She was asking for a value option that has a little more room. They are it. She would still need another room, but she could book her whole family into the suite and then a room for her parents.

I was just thinking the suite gave a little more wiggle room, so to speak, considering they have a wheelchair.

They also have the little kitchenette, so maybe they could save a little money with simple breakfasts in the room.

You have a lot of options. If you go the value route, I would suggest 3 standard rooms (if BIL goes), two family suites, or even one suite and one standard at ASMu.

You could do 2 or 3 mod rooms. You could also look into renting points or pricing out a two-bedroom villa (or even the 3 bedroom treehouse villa at SSR).

How many nights are you staying? I agree with the comment about going moderate, if you can afford it, for the atmosphere and space. The moderate rooms are larger than the value rooms across the board, except for the suites that were mentioned, which I think are way too expensive for what they are. I haven't stayed in a value, only moderate, but I couldn't imagine doing smaller than a moderate with a wheelchair in the room. Do you need an accessible room? It doesn't look like they consider any of the 5 bed POR or CBR rooms to be "accessible".

Looking at rates right now, you could do three value rooms for around $600 a night.

$512 for two 5 bed CBR rooms which could fit all of you, as long as the layout and location works for your daughter.

$770 for three CBR rooms.

At that point, you're probably better off renting a villa: https://www.dvcrequest.com/

If it were me, I'd get a four bedroom condo at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for about $430-450 a night, maybe less! ;) It's an expensive time of year

For those prices, I would go off-site and either stay at a pool home or condo.

My family of 4 (including an 11 year old with her personal wheelchair) stayed in a non-accessible room at All Star Sports last summer. Like your daughter, my daughter is mobile enough to get around the room and doesn't need the features of an accessible room, but does need the chair for any type of distance. We had no problems getting her chair in and out of the room. We typically stored it between the door and one of the beds. It (a customized pediatric wheelchair) fit fine and really wasn't in our way. We never folded the chair while we were in the room--although we did sometimes take the stroller handle off for more compact storage.
