We are traveling from Orlando to NW Ohio and are looking for suggestions for a nice, budget hotel north of Atlanta to break up our trip. There will be 3 of us, my DD, her college roommate, and me.
Springhill Suites in Kennesaw GA. Room would have 2 beds, plus sofa bed so you could all have your own bed. Free breakfast in the morning. The Kennesaw area is really nice too.
We thought it was great place to stay on the way home.
I am assuming that you are coming from 75S.
The Kennesaw area is a good area to stop. Nice area, plenty of hotels in the area, mall with Disney store nearby, and plenty of restaurants. This puts you about 20 mins north of downtown Atlanta. Most of the hotels are nice so just stick with what you know is usually good: Hilton, Holiday Inn, Marriott brands and you should be fine.
Just make sure to time your drive to miss traffic.
We have stayed in this area and it was very nice. I think we stayed at a Comfort Inn and we had a free breakfast. Be sure to time your am departure to avoid rush hour traffic. Atlanta has some pretty crazy commutes.

Embassy Suites Kennesaw (Chastain Rd.). We have stayed there and it's very nice! There's a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on property, which is super $$$, but they have a bar/lounge with a reasonably priced menu. Plus, several fast food places just a short walk across the parking lot.
