Came home from DLP yesterday.
Hotel was fab, will stay there in the future. Bar is a non-smoking area since Jan. 7th. Guess that may be the case at all the hotels.
Were having the best time ever for 24 hours and then the wheels fell off on DS's 10th birthday ( our reason for this visit ) took us until Wednesday to begin toget into the Disney spirit again and we had to come home then. It was a shame because it had all the makings for a great time.
Hope no-one on this board wittnessed what was happening atThunder Mountain, frontier land and the top end of Main Street last Monday afternoon - everyone was brought back to reality with a bump, I hope it didn't effect your time at DLP if you were

hotel new york looked fab when we were there, was the ice rink still up?

sorry for being thick but what actually happened there last week???

You're not being thick.
There was a medical emergency which was pretty traumatic for all concerned, and for bystanders.
It is not everyday that you see that kind of thing at DLP, it resulted in a resturant being cleared to accomodate the medical emergency ( everyone had to rapidly clear their food off the tables and vacate the area ) and then a dash through Frontier Land and across the top of main street with stretcher and oxygen etc. You find out just how good or bad the medical service is at DLP in a real emergency, but its not something that anyone wants to find out during their visit to DLP.

I'm sorry to hear that your trip wasn't quite as good as it should have been  I am glad you like the HNY though - after I go on, and on about it!! ;) Good to hear about the bar becoming non smoking :thumbsup2

The Hotel New York was great, so pleased I took on board all your enthusiasm and booked to go there. We were stuck on the SL.

Thankfully our son made a full recovery, but it could have gone either way, at one point we weren't sure that we were going to win. There was a family who helped out, one helped us to care for our son and others looked after our youngest son who was terribly upset because he thought his brother was dead. Cast members tried to help but the language barrier became huge at that time, it was ages before we could get oxygen - I got the impression they don't get too many real emergencies - they were great later on and very supportive, but in the initial stages it was very difficult to get the help required. I was impressed with the equipment they had in the Disney "infirmary" the problem was the patient had to get to it, rather than the equipment getting to the patient

OMG Dee - I didn't realise that the medical emergency was your son, I thought you meant you had just witnessed it, which would have been unpleasant enough. I'm sorry I sounded so blase  What a horrible horrible thing to happen   Thank goodness everything was okay :grouphug:

:grouphug: Dee that must have been so scary. Hopefully DS is all okay now :)

The ice rink was there although DS only managed to go on it the first night. Second day it was closed ( rained off ) 2nd night it was the same
3rd day it was rained off until the evening, we decided he could go to skate after the meal but when we got there even though they were still on the ice the place to hire the skates was closed.
Decided he could do it the next day because we were told it would be open - went back to hotel at 2.30pm but there was a competition of some kind on so it was closed for the day. Not much luck with the ice skating, we had a fab view of the rink from our window ( requested ) but DS hardly spent any time on it.

 I really hope your son is fully recovered and you and the rest of the family are too. It must have been awful!!!

Sending lots of pixie dust :wizard: to DS, hope he's made a full recovery and that whatever happened hasn't put any of you off a return trip.

The HNY always has such good reviews I think I shall have to consider a stay there.:goodvibes

Hope DS has made a full recovery  . It sounds terrifying.
