Hi,

These are coming out at the same price for our four night trip next March. We have two girls aged 4 and 6 and have only stayed at the Cheyenne before, which we really enjoyed.

I am leaning towards the New York but wondered what other people opinions are?

Thanks.

Hi,
what ages are your little ones?
I haven't stayed in a GF room but have stayed in a Lake view room at SL and it was beautiful. The rooms are lovely and fresh and the hotel just feels so cosy in the winter months. Its lovely to relax by the huge open fire with a nice drink after a fun day at the parks.
Saying that we love love love HNY. It feels so lush and smells great and the rooms are a great size. We've stayed there twice and it does feel more adult orientated but when you have little ones running about a bigger room is a bonus. It also has hot items for breakfast and feels alot closer to the parks which was great in January with DS who is 4 as we could nip back for a nap and a freshen up and to get in from the cold (snow everywhere and cold). March could have beautiful weather though so this mightn't be an issue for you.

HNY for me but with smaller kids I'd go for SL.

I haven't stayed at SL - so can't compare for you. But as you'll see from my sig we love the HNY :thumbsup2 We've been going there since our kids were small and I'd actually still choose it simply for the proximity to the park/village, bigger rooms (so I've heard), the breakfast and the character meets in the lobby each morning are usually quiet :goodvibes

But then again I can only compare it to DLH - which is where we'd probably go if I was a lottery winner :lmao: and the Cheyenne. I did like Cheyenne, but I do like my air con in summer and a more civilised breakfast ;)

Good luck deciding :goodvibes

Thanks, it is so difficult :confused3

My girls are 4 and 6. Initially SL appealed to me for the reasons you say but the more I thought about NY, the more I liked the idea, its partly because its so different to what we are used to, so glitzy looking, whereas we already live in a house with stone walls and a log fire surrounded by trees - I really hope that doesn't sound stupid!

And maybe its a bit selfish as NY is more adult orientated but tbh I know my girls will be happy just to be at dlp and we were planning a dinner at inventions and a café mickey breakfast anyway.

Though if the golden forest rooms start getting better feedback I think I could be swayed.

Not at all, I totally get this! Its makes sense to go for something thats not the usual!

.
Well my 4 year old loved HNY! The bar is a bit smaller / very adult orientated and he was perhaps a bit hyper > my 26 year old friend was winding him up and encourage him to be cheeky :crazy2::crazy2: but if I'd have left the 26 year old behind I wouldn't have felt so out of place with the 4 year old in the NY bar!
It is a fan hotel and like Julie said, bar the DLH its a winner hands down.

Hi Julie,

sorry for some reason I didn't see your post before I last posted. Thanks so much for your reply, in fact I have been reading the hotels thread this morning and I have been really enjoying your up to date reports about the New York, they have been a massive help! :thumbsup2

The idea of being closer to the parks and also that the hotel is half the size of the others and that there is less breakfast and character scrum is really nice.

Kizzabel I think my girls would love it too. Were there no other children in the bar then? How do the pools compare for kids? I know the SL has a slide, but I also heard that neither pools have shallow ends? We will be there in March so the outdoor ones will be closed I guess.

well I think the SQLs pool might just have the edge in regards theming but when we went to HNYs pool we were the only swimmers and DS played in the kids pool (very basic, 2 inches of water to the side of the standard hotel looking adult pool) but to be fair unless you have a longer stay (more then 3 nights) its hard to always get time in for swimming, it wouldn't be the decider for me personally.

Both pools had some floats and arm bands on the side for the kids too.

I've not been swimming out of warm season but I've read previous reports that the pools throughout the resort can be very cold...in fact the pool last week was a bit nippy until we went outside in the sun.

My imput on this would be the GF rooms have an extra incentive of a separate breakfast room and opportunity to have free snacks and drinks in the afternoon. Its a lovely looking room with waiters ready for your order. I'm having a few days honeymoon there as I just love the Sequoia - though it would have been the HNY if not for these extra perks ;)

oooh that's a tough one!

I used to be a massive SQL fan, but my last stay there I felt it wasn't as good as I remembered. However, the Golden Forest Rooms do have the potential to be a fantastic perk (once they've sorted out the initial teething problems people were reporting).

If you were going Jan/Feb I'd say HNY for definite as being that bit closer to the parks can be a godsend in colder months. But in March you could have glorious weather (as we did in 2012) or horrible cold weather (as we did this year!) so I don't think I'd base the decision on what the weather may be like.

So, on reflection, I think I'd go with SQL and the Golden Forest room! :thumbsup2

I'd go for HNY. I just love that hotel. And my kids love it too.
SL didn't give me that overall feeling at all. We didn't stay in golden forest room though. But as the pool was the reason we chose SL, HNY wins it as it has a better pool. And I like HNY atmosphere way better.

IMHO I always think the Sequoia wins for its pool, the theming is way better - but is suspect the HNY could possibly be less crowded? DCR - now there's a fab pool :)

Maybe the theming is better, but the water is freezing, it's dark, crowded, changing rooms not clean... and the baby pool.... oh, and to use jacuzzi you have to swim across the pool.

Thanks everyone for your input - I am about 40% for SL and 60% for NY so I think that is the final decision!
