Hi all

We are going to San Diego in October to go to Sea World. I hadn't really thought about Legoland but I bet my 5yo dd would love it! (We've never been).

I can get discount tickets through work for buy 1 one day and get the second day free.

SO... I'm not sure if we should just stay in our hotel in San Diego and drive up twice or just find a hotel close by for the 2 days we would be at Legoland.

Thoughts?? Anyone have good suggestions for Carlsbad area? Or another area that would make the drive far less than San Diego??

Thanks!

I would suggest Inns of America Suites. It is very close to Legoland and they have a complimentary shuttle to the park. It was clean and in a safe area. We stayed there and also did the beaches at San Clemente, San Diego Wild Animal Park and Balboa park. It is about 30-40 minutes to San Diego depending on where you are staying.

My DD is 4.5 and she was a perfect age for Legoland. have fun!

Legoland has 2 resort associated with it. I think one is a Sheraton. If you go on their site, you would be able to search for a hotel that are nearby and not just the 2 resorts. I am not sure but I think one of the resorts has their own entrance gate for guests staying there.

I just booked a hotel (last night, in fact) in Carlsbad for the same reasons - didn't want to do the 1/2 hr. drive back and forth for 2 day. I was ready to book at the Inns and Suites of America as recommended above, but ended up booking at the Holiday Inn Carlsbad by the Sea...only because I have and Entertainment Book card and got a great rate through them using the card. They also have a comp. shuttle to Legoland (save $12 parking). The only difference is they do not have a comp. breakfast, but there is kids eat free at Ruby's Diner (adjacent to the property)....we are not 'huge' breakfast eaters, so that was not a big deal to us - we saved enough w/ the discount to buy breakfast and still be ahead. It really depends what amenities are important to you. Good luck.

I can highly recommend The West Inn and Suites. They are rated #1 on tripadvisor for the Carlsbad area. We stayed there a couple years ago and their rooms are gorgeous, clean, huge and they have an excellent hot breakfast and cookies and milk in the evenings. They also provide a free shuttle to and from Legoland so you don't have to worry about parking fees. It's an awesome little hotel and I would stay there again even if we weren't going to Legoland.

I am local, so don't stay anywhere but my house when I am going to LL, but thought I'd give you some travel times.

I live almost downtown at the 8/805 junction. It takes me about 28-35 minutes to drive to LL. Keep in mind that I am local....so I do drive fast.

The return trip can take up to 50 minutes, but usually more 35.

Have fun!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions - they are great. We haven't decided if we are going to do this trip or not.

DH has a cousin in Vermont and we may go visit them in October instead.. .
decisions, decisions...

:)

Hi, thought I'd include my two cents into your Legoland trip. We just returned from a 5 night trip to San Diego from the Bay Area. We drove with our 4 year old ds. He loved Legoland. We chose to stay at the Paradise Point Resort in San Diego. We walked to Sea World. The resort had a deal going at the time of 30% off if you stay 3+nights. We opted to drive to Legoland on the final two days. It is around 30 miles. With traffic it was around 30-40 minutes. Keep in mind we hit the park after a leisurely morning of breakfast and just being lazy, so we arrived at the park around 11 am on one day and 1:30 PM the other day. I originally booked the Sheraton at Legoland in Carlsbad, but it was pricey. I think around $240 ish a night. Paradise Point was $185/night and the grounds were gorgeous. It felt like a tropical vacation. The rooms are being updated in September (they need it) and we will definitlely be back next year for a bungalow on the beach. There are some great deals on park tickets that I found on another board, pm me if you want the info. Have a great trip.
