We are on the 4/6 magic and just found out the space shuttle launch is scheduled for 4/4- I have ressies for the Radisson at the Port on 4/5, they are sold out on 4/4. Any suggestions?
Unfortunately, it's tough to get a room at the Space Coast whenever there's a shuttle launch, and the rates are inflated. But it's usually still possible to find a room. Go to travelocity.com or expedia.com and search on Cape Canaveral or Cocoa Beach.
We have tickets to see that launch and are having to stay in Melbourne. We originally had ressies at Cocoa Beach but the launch date changed. That is also the week after Easter which also makes it tough to find a room.
Travelocity found me mine at the Ocean Front Holiday Inn for $99 per night.
Good Luck,
Thanks for all the info. I will try travelocity. I'm still hoping Radisson will become available. I am a native Floridian and never seen a launch. Our family is very excited. We have tickets to view it from the Astronaut Hall of Fame.
I am going on a disney vacation on april 11th with the cruise beginning on the 13th. We are going for our honeymoon.
I will not be there for the launch, but where is kennedy space center? It is close to disney world? I was thinking that might be an interesting place to go. how long will it take?
Port Canaveral, where you board the ship, is within a few miles to Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Center.
We took the kids a few years ago during a trip to WDW. It takes at least 1/2 a day and if you spent time with all of the exhibits and do the IMAX movie it could definately be a full day adventure. You take buses from the main visitor complex that take you to at least 4 stops. You can spend as much time as you want at each stop and get on a bus to go to the next location, or skip the ones you don't want to see. We found all of it to be very interesting.
We were in Port Canaveral for two days before our Disney Cruise which was in September last year. We planned on taking the kids to see the Space Coast wildlife refuge areas......but they were all closed down due to security reasons of 9/11. At that time, Kennedy space center was not open to the public but was to reopen soon. Due to increased security things may have changed. Maybe someone has been there more recently.

For those of you without kids under 12, there is a fabulous bed and breakfast just 5 minutes from the Port - the Indian River House. Charming older home on the Indian River - can view space launches from their pier. I stayed there with my sister last December.
I checked out the Indian River House during a recent trip to the Space Coast. It is, indeed, very nice. Get one of the river view rooms on the second floor.
I purchased our tickets in December and was told they would be mailed two weeks before launch which is this week. Will call Saturday if we don't have tickets.
