Hello everybody

I've been lurking for a few months trying to get tips for our trip. We arrive in CA on Tues and go to DL and DCA on Wed and Thurs. My question...

How far away is the Hotel Menage from the entrance? I booked a few months ago and it said about 1 block from Disneyland but I just looked at a map that another member posted and it seems pretty far away.

Is it safe to walk? I don't think (but I'm not sure) that the hotel has a shuttle.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

The Hotel Menage is a bit farther away than the Howard Johnson, and probably too far to walk, unless you are a walker, especially at the end of the day. I believe that the hotel uses the ART.

You'll be very close to the fireworks, and I think you'd get a good show from the pool area.

Enjoy your stay!

I loved the hotel menage when it was called days in at the park ( I believe) THEY HAD A PRIVATE SHUTTLE THEN AND WE ENJOYED THIS MOTEL. UNFORTUNATLY THEY CHANGED HANDS AND NO MORE SHUTTLE. we opted not to stay there again as it was just to far to walk at night.

There's still a Days inn right behind the Menage with a shuttle. The Menage used to be a Holiday Inn.

We stayed there after they became the Menage and did not care for it much. The rooms tried to become all sheik and modern and it's still just an old motel. But they did do a lot of upgrading you can see new fixtures and fresh paint and carpet in the rooms. It was a valiant effort. And the pool area is really awesome, it's the best part:thumbsup2. The bar makes some good drinks. Just don't expect too much. The walk is way too far for most - it was for me. ART is the way to go, but they are not a reliable shuttle service. That is frustrating. I prefer a dedicated shuttle or walking distance. Just my two cents!

Oh, and welcome nvwifenmom!

One small thing that nobody seems to have mentioned - the Menage is the other side of the freeway, so you'd need to cross the freeway as part of your walk.

Even Motel 6 lists every amenity like truck and RV parking, television, internet access, pool, and ice machine. Motel 6 and other hotels list everything possible to get as many guests as possible. Menage does not have a good on site menu and the font is too small on the reservations form. I would go with a site that has a good online website that is easy to use and answers all questions while having maps and other things a traveller may need.

I have stayed at chic and upscale hotels and anyone can make a hotel chic looking but it is the amenities, service and something besides one photo of a room.

Look at this site compared to Menage. All of this is easy for a web designer to do. "Easy on the eyes" white with little graphics making it easy on the printer. Everything you need to know is right there and there is a menu on the left. Now go back to Menage Hotel and see the difference. When I am traveling I have a list of needs and wants and Menage may be chic but I am at a hotel for amenities and guest services and ease of travel.

I don't know what Churchlady is talking about!?
We had a great experience at this hotel, AND we loved the menu..our granddaughter adored the lobster ravioli!

We've never had a problem with ART.. you buy your pass and this particular hotel has only one other hotel on its route.. that's the Holiday Inn on South Walnut { which is where we've stayed many times}. It's quick and easy and we use ART on all our trips to Disneyland.. we are annual passholders so we get alot of use out of ART.

ART allows you to go and forth between the hotel and Disneyland as many times as you want throughout the day til the park closes.

I am saying that their website is inadequate. I personally would not choose them because of distance and the website which is hard to use and does not seem to have enough info. I plain English: their website is not very well designed and has little information. Oh well I may have the tag but am not the expert, sometimes Tag Fairies are wrong apparently.:upsidedow

Churchlady.. have you stayed at this hotel?:goodvibes
I was wondering why if you haven't stayed at the hotel,
you were saying they do not have a good on site menu?

We're staying there in 2 weeks. We booked it through hotels.com and got a really good rate. We're not sure if we're going to walk or just drive. We saw people walking from that hotel this past weekend though. You don't have to cross the freeway or any street. It's on the same side of the street as DLR is. You just walk around the corner, over the bridge and down the street.

Because I am local is why I do not know much about DLR area parks and the ones I have stayed at were years ago.

Again you misunderstand what I said.

WEBSITE MENU
When I have traveled I have preferred those hotels that have good website menus. As I showed the Fairfield has a computer friendly home page, has everything that most travelers need like deaf contact numbers, site info, amenities and a very good menu. The menu has maps of the area for example so you can see a bird's eye view of the hotel. The Fairfield menu has lists of transportation sites available as well as all amenities so you know if there is a shuttle for example.

If I was rich and had a mothersitter then I would do DLR hotels first then Howard Johnson, Candy Cane, or Fairfield. There are others but those stand out right now.:teacher:

Well, I think ukstitch meant that you cross OVER the freeway. You do have to walk across the freeway exit. Sometimes cars can be in a big hurry there, if you know what I mean. It's just a long walk, IMHO, but we did do the walk more than once (as we stayed there last April with a really good Expedia rate, too - I think it was $64+tax). I agree, the menu at Kya (spelling?) was very good. DD & I had seafood and like I said the bar by the pool made excellent cocktails. :)

It is .6 miles and does not count walking from your room to the street or from the street to DCA and DL entrances. Add about 1000 feet to the middle of the Esplanade so that you are talking about a .8 mile walk from room to DCA or DL entrance approximately.

Guests walk along three and four lanes of west bound traffic and over the 5 freeway. As was stated guests have to cross the off ramp from the southbound I5 which turns into its own lane then merges left one lane. Cars do not have to stop there and can hit over 25 MPH on that turn. The curve and the bridge to the east makes it hard to see oncoming traffic. You come off the freeway and have to turn right away and cannot see that well. If there were a problem a person walking from HoJo or other hotels have businesses along the way but not this one and the only way to contact someone in an emergency is to cross at least 6 lanes of traffic to get to HoJo's side of the street.

As you see in this photo the sidewalk is just wide enough for one disability item or two people. There are no shade trees and only the DLR and Menage Hotel walls to shade you.

I really appreciate your responses. I asked because I booked at the Menage through Hotels.com and I think I received a great rate. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to and from the park. I don't mind walking but I have a 6 & 8 yr old with me and dh. I guess we'll play it by ear.

Thanks again. I will continue to monitor this thread until tomorrow. I leave on Tuesday for my very first visit to Disneyland. I'm so excited. I can't wait to experience this with my kids.

Call the hotel to see if they have a shuttle. If not there are taxis and ART that you can check into. There might be a local bus that also runs along that street.

Two friends and I stayed at Hotel Menage in September and just booked another stay there for this coming September. We absolutely loved it! It is not the best hotel if you have little kids, but for teens, young adults, and adults, I think it is a great place. We are in our 20s and had a blast. The pool is fantastic!

Also- the walk is a little longer but not dangerous or anything... we walked it and it wasnt too bad and there was never any problem with cars not stopping and driving crazy alongside the sidewalk. Its pretty much over the bridge and then straight to the entrance. No issues at all. We walked part of the time, and then took the ART the rest.

mechurchlady- have you made the walk before or are you speculating?
