What is the best hotel to stay in while visiting Sea World and San Diego Zoo?

In 2005 we stayed at the Dana Inn on Misson Bay. It was a beutiful hotel on beautiful grounds. SUPER close to Sea World (you can see it from their property) and a 10-15 minute drive to the zoo. About 5-minutes from the ocean/beaches. We loved it. The rooms weren't fancy but had a mini-fridge and microwave. They had a nice pool as well. There were boat/bike rentals etc. It was really great for us.

We're staying at The Dana on Mission bay in September also. We haven't been there before so can't tell you much about it but we chose it for the close location to Seaworld. We won't have a car so being in walking distance will be very handy!

I just booked the Comfort Inn & Suites Zoo Seaworld Area for July. Does anyone have any feedback on the place? It looked nice in the pictures, and it seems close to everything. We also need a room to hold 5, and this one does - 2 queens & a sofabed. I've never had a problem with a Comfort Inn, so I'm crossing my fingers.

The Dana for us too! It was clean, beautiful grounds, and great housekeeping staff. The restaurants are just ok. Pool/spa is nice (think there are 2 we just used 1). Yes you can walk it to Sea World--it takes about 8 minutes to walk, less if you get to the light at the right time :) That's with a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old. Private shuttle for the hotel gets you there a bit quicker (if your schedule matches the shuttle!) -- driver was a hoot.

what are the bedding arrangements like? We will have 2 teens, so they are not small, and require their own beds. Is there a room with 2 queens and a possibility of a roll away? I'm really considering switching from Shelter Island since we won't have a car (unless we decide to rent one) and do this one since it's within walking distance of SW! It sounds perfect...

I was thinking it would be nice to have a hotel right on the beach...are their nice hotels that are like that? (Nice, but in my price range...so Hotel Del Cornado is out!)

Still looking for a hotel in San Diego! Cast of characters: Me, DH, daughter (17) and son (14) I have the Best Western Island Palms on Shelter Island and the Doubletree in Mission Valley booked right now because I wasn't sure which one I'd want...(indecisive!) but I've also considered the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina (they have a special that includes free full breakfast and 15% off dining and spa services, and their pool area with 3 slides looks awesome!) I'm just not sure which area would be best for us! We weren't planning renting a car, but I think we may have, especially if we stay in the outer areas...We only have 3 days there, and plan on doing Sea World, maybe visiting Coronado Island, Old Town, Balboa Park (not the zoo) so maybe this would help with suggestions as to where we should stay?? I'd appreciate any help I can get!!

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay and really liked it. That is a great deal if they are giving you a free breakfast! We ate breakfast at their restaurant as a special treat because it was kind of pricey. It was really good though. One of the things we liked the best about staying there is that they have a water taxi to take you to sea world. It cost extra but it was a fun way to arrive at SW and for just the 2 of us it was about the same price as paying for parking.

It sounds like you may need a car to get around to all the places you want to go. I think SD has some sort of trolley that goes to some of the tourist sites but I'm not sure where it goes and I've never tried it myself.
