Hotel in-room coffee makers

I've seen some interesting pics of what people might do with them, so no.
Oh I had to google that! I just saw some interesting salmon and broccoli techniques hahaha Goodness knows what else happens to it,,,not sure I want to know.

My worst thought is of housekeeping wiping it down with the same towel they use for everything else.

No way. those things are rank. They're not cleaned properly. I doubt seriously if they're running vinegar through a cycle like they're supposed to to keep them clean. And meth heads use them to heat up meth.

I also only use the wrapped disposable cups. I've stayed in hotels that use regular glasses but I won't use them. The cleaning is not up to standard and half the time they're just wiped, rinsed and put back out. EWWW.

The wiped out glasses really freak me out. You never see them replace the glasses with clean glasses, so how else are they doing it??

The last few hotels we stayed at the coffee maker was on or near the fridge/microwave area (not in the bathroom). Since these hotels also offered coffee brewed in the lobby I just had that. If that wasn't available I'd have used the coffee maker in the room. If I recall the coffee cups were just disposable in the room.

:crazy2: We usually use a glass to keep our loose change in that collects in our pockets through the day. It's gross to think they aren't cleaned.
But you're right, I have never seen clean glasses on the carts..........

No, but I don’t drink coffee and if I do make tea, it will have a coffee taste unless it’s a Keurig.

Once in a while. But my wife insists on staying at Holiday Inn Expresses, and they always have coffee around the clock in the breakfast room, just easier.

I have used it once, a Keurig machine, for tea. wasn't bad bug I did run about 5 cups of hot water through it to get rid of the coffee taste from the water.

I wouldn't touch them. I also don't touch any glassware or cups/mugs unless they are the kind that have been plastic wrapped. I'm not really a germaphobe, but I do have an active imagination and....yuck!

I would like to having coffee in my room, but I have yet to get a good cup of coffee from in room coffee makers.

I've gone backpacking before and drank water from a stream. Granted I did use chemical treatments or boiling, but it was basically the stuff that had various stuff fall in from any number of plants and animals. I don't get all that squeamish about these things because I realize we live in a work where we think things are clean but they're not.

The other day I was at a demonstration farm near home and said hi to the cows walking in their own filth. I've eaten clams and oysters, which basically means eating everything including the digestive organs and its waste.

I like them, but few hotels have them, they want you to buy at there expensive store. But i like my coffee simple "black" dont ruin it by putting another taste in that cup

I use them and am still alive. Love when they have a Keurig.

I have never seen them in the bathroom. We either have a kitchenette or they are in the room.

No. Every time I look at one of those coffee machines in a hotel, I can just envision the maid wiping down the toilet, then hurridly wiping the coffee pot down.

LOL- I once read this persons "blog" about tips for traveling and they described how to use the coffee maker in the room to do a "quick wash" of panty hose or small undergarments and never ever ever will I touch one of those things!! I won't use glasses in the hotels either, we travel with paper bathroom cups to use for brushing teeth, other than that if we want water we buy a bottle of it.

Yes, always, usually two cups every morning while I get ready. In fact, oddly enough, coffee in the hotel room is one of those things that feels very "vacation mode" for me. At home I typically drink an iced coffee in the morning and I have to go to the kitchen to get it, so having the smell of hot coffee brewing feet away from my bed is one of those little details that I strongly associate with being on vacation. And then, after I've finished my cheap hotel room coffee, I go to the nearest cafe and get my "real" coffee before getting on with our day's plans.

This is the first I've heard of coffee makers being kept in the bathroom area, though.

More often than not if it's on a vanity, that vanity is separate from where the toilet is. The example I found is of course where it's right there. And it really depends on the layout of the place. I've also stayed in deluxe rooms that had separate tubs, showers, a powder room, and even two toilets in their own closets.

I suppose the idea is to place it near the tap. If it leaves a mess, that generally easier to clean on the vanity counter than on a desk. And in those locations there's usually a GFCI outlet, which can make it a little bit safer in case the whole thing gets wet.

I bring my own coffee and make it in the room when in Disney. Most of the mornings I/we like to have a cup before being ready/looking presentable enough to go down. I will send hubby down to get a cup when we don't make it in the room. I don't usually make it anywhere else - unless we rent a condo for a week at the beach somewhere, etc. Always wash, wash, wash first :)

Having said this, I always wash the coffee pot first and any mugs/glassware/dishes we will be using. When I remember, if we are driving, I will bring my own coffee mug. The ones in the villas are too small.......
