Well, I'm new to this and I was reading through some of the other threads and realized how helpful they are and was hoping for some advice. I am going to plan a surprise trip for my best friend to Disney World for her birthday. She has never been before and has dreamt of going forever so I figured this would be perfect. I have been to Disney many times but we have always stayed at our house in Florida when we have gone except for one time. I love Disney and have always wanted that true experience I know a hotel there can give. We are both going to be 18 when we go so I was hoping for some good hotel ideas so I can start the planning process. Thanks! :)

First of all :welcome:

Second, I think we need some more information. What is your budget, what's your favorite park, what kind of experience do you want for your friend?

My dd and friends who are also 18 are going this August. We are putting them in All stars Sports which they are quite happy with. This is a value resort so it does not have a jacuzzi or slide but my dD and friends are okay with it.

they seem quite happy with the theme. If you want to upgrade a bit I would stay at CSR...You will both like it there and if you get a really great rate I would try the AKL...

Have fun!!!

Well I want to stay under $300 a night, if possible. We would go in January because that's when her birthday is so that might help with prices. I really love all the parks but if I had to choose I would say Magic Kingdom or Epcot. I want my friend to have the experience a young child would have going there for the first time. I remember when I first went at age 5 and it was the most amazing experience ever and I want it to be like that for her.

I'd suggest Wilderness Lodge. If you're going in January, that should be "value" season pricing and it will be less than $300 per night. It's a gorgeous resort and you can take a boat to MK. I think it would be fun to watch your friend on the boat as you approach MK.

First of all, you have one lucky BF to have a friend like you!!! You have many options for a room under $300/ night and many that would have that magical feel you are looking for.

The value resorts (POP and the All Stars) are all very Disney-themed resorts. They all have huge icons scattered around the property, like 4 story tall dalmations at AS Movies, 4 story tall cowboy boots and drum sets at AS Music, an unreal huge big wheel at POP, and many others. Everything there is bigger than life and very brightly colored. They are just too fun!!! We stay at lots of the Disney resorts and go back to the values for the fun of it all and not all for the money. From the values, you would take the bus to each park. If you want her to have that 5 year old feel, then a value resort is definitely for you.

The moderates are great also, but are bigger and have slides at their pools. Of all the mods, we prefer the mansions section of POR. We love to stay there too since it is really relaxing!! It looks like it is right out of Gone with the Wind. From the moderates, you could take a boat to DTD or a bus to the parks.

The deluxes are great resorts and are closer to the parks with various travel options. They are a little more plush, have queen size beds instead of full like at the other resorts, and tend to have more table service dining options available. The cheapest of the deluxes would be AKL and WL and with January discounts, you could possibly get a room for less than $300/ night. Of all the deluxes, we prefer the BC for it's closeness to Epcot, BW activities, SAB, and Cape May Cafe character breakfast.

Have a great trip!!!

Deluxe resort with a cheaper price, under 300 a night, boat to the MK, and also to FW and CR. Resort all under one roof, fantastic pool, walking trails to FW and when you step into the lobby, just as good as seeing the MK for the first time, awesome. This resort is very subdued and quiet in the evening, catch the EWP from the boat boat every night and the dining is very good, 2 seating restaurants and a good food court. Our last 10 stays have been here and up and coming trip is booked here also, for the experience, price, ambiance and location, our favorite.

I would suggest a couple resorts close to MK.
The Poly which is tropical, great views, and some wonderful restaurants. You can easily get to MK on the monorail or the boat. Plus sitting on the beach with a Dole whip and watching the fireworks is great. They have a fun volcano pool and hammocks on the beach.

The Wilderness Lodge is another great resort. Absolutely beautiful inside and they have a great pool. Cheaper then the Poly. They have a boat to MK.

You might want to order the free dvd from Disney to get a closer look at resorts.
Other Suggestions:
Go to City Hall at MK and get your friend a Birthday pin. Surprises will then await you. Just have her wear it all around the parks.
What is your friends favorite character. Then find out which meal has that character. Ex. Princess - Akershus, Mickey - Chef Mickey

Make sure to note it is your friends bday on your room resv and on any dining resvs.
