We have a trip planned for June 2017. We have a parlor suite at the Desert Inn booked for our dates. We stayed there in 2015 and really liked it. The short walk was great....especially since we like to go back to rest in the afternoon.

But now I am worried about the possibility of construction on the new parking structure during our visit. I do NOT want to have to take a long walk to and from the park with our 3 year old. I don't want to drive to and from the park multiple times a day. I also don't want to listen to insane construction noise in the afternoons. (We also have two non-park days where we're likely to be in the room more.)

I just don't know what other hotel options are out there for us that fit everything we want. Maybe none, actually.

Here is my list of "wants"....
We want the extra space of a suite (comparable to the parlor suite at the Desert Inn.)
We want a short walk. Or some other easy way to get to and from the parks in the morning, afternoon, and at night. (I have tried researching hotels with shuttle options before and I got super overwhelmed so any suggestions with that would be great.)
We cannot afford expensive hotels. Our rate at the Desert Inn is $139 a night.
Breakfast isn't super important but I would prefer something free, even if it's just pastries and tea.

Do I have any options or am I just completely out of luck?? Any help is appreciated.

I am so sad we had to reschedule and can't go in February anymore.

We just got back from staying at the Homewood Suites near the Toy Story Parking Lot. I think it fits the bill for your list of wants. I'm not sure on the price exactly, as we stayed with points, but I bet it's under $150 a night. It's only about a 5 minute walk from the hotel to the Toy Story shuttle. The hotel includes free breakfast, as well as an evening reception on weeknights, and the rooms are very spacious (not sure how they compare to the Desert Inn though).

We really enjoyed our stay here and plan to stay again when we go in February. I think this is a newer hotel, and our room was nice. Nothing special, but clean and comfortable.

Homewood Suites is very new. It killed our view of the fireworks from Dolphin's Cove :thanks:

You can't beat Desert Inn for distance and room size. You have a great rate (But beware of resort and parking fees being added on. I don't know about this hotel specifically, but most hotels in the area add $30-40 a night in fees).

Anything as close and near the same price will have the same issue with construction (if that ends up being an issue, which it may not be).

Only way to be close and avoid construction would be to stay at Disneyland official hotel, at 3.5-4X the price you have at Desert Inn.

For slightly further walk (like 3/4 mile instead of 1/4) maybe try one of the hotels on Katella south of Disney, like around the Coco's and Tiffy's restaurants.

If you are looking for inexpensive Motels near Disneyland but away from the construction noise.

I would look at the Super 8 on Katella next to the Anaheim GardenWalk.

The Extended Stay America on Clementine across from the Cheessecake Factory (Larger room)

or the Motel 6 on Disney Way (would have some construction impact).

But the walk to and from the Desert Inn won't change until 2018. And with Disney's offer to allow an back entrance on the east end of the property, the walk wouldn't be that much farther when the project is completed in 2018.

Sounds like you got a good rate and you are familiar with the Desert Inn, so it should work fine. AND it is a SHORT walk.....seems like it meets your needs.....I would stick with it!

June might be less expensive, but I priced it out for our July 2017 trip ... it's about $300 a night. Definitely more expensive than most Homewood Suites. The secret is out (or it's just more expensive in peak season).

How on earth did you get that wonderful rate? Are you going in early June? We are staying at the DI & S in July in the C1 suite for $229 a night!

Edit:I see there is a parlor suite, and a parlor family suite. Goodness, how confusing!

My understanding is the walk to the parks won't be affected until sometime after summer 2017.

More than likely until summer of 2018 at the earliest, as all the construction has to be completed and the new wlakways open before they even start removing the old ones.

In 2017, the issue will be construction noise in regards to the building of the bridge ,new transportation hub and the Pumbaa Parking Structure.

We are (hopefully) going in late June. The rate for the parlor suite on those dates is still $139, I believe. It's smaller/cheaper than the parlor family suite though. For the February dates we need to cancel, our rate was only $104. I'm sad to let that go. :(

Those off-season rates are so amazing. We usually stay at BWPPI in a mini suite...their prices have gone up about $20 since summer 2015, looking at next summers rates. It would be $179 a night. So we decided to splurge and get more space with the family parlor suite at DI&S for $50 more a night. It'll be interesting to see how we like the hotel...we aren't too picky. I am hoping for not too much construction noise for those afternoon naps. I'll be following people's reports on the DIS, and hoping for the best.
I'm also hoping the railroad and Fantasmic are up and running and not delayed. Lots of finger crossing for this summer 2017 trip!

I think that you should keep your existing reservation at Desert Inn for next June. We have a reservation for late May 2017 at Hojo's and I emailed Hojo's a couple of days ago specifically asking them if we'd still be able to enter Disneyland through the existing Harbor Blvd entrance. Hojo's said that Disney has informed them that the Harbor Blvd entrance will remain open throughout construction. So you should still expect to be able to cross Harbor Blvd at BWPPI next June. It's going to take Disney a lot longer than 6 months to build a massive parking garage plus a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Blvd. You have nothing to worry about.

In all honesty, I don't expect the construction noise to be bad at DI&S. The way the building sits, there is kind of a horse shoe shape made around Denny's by DI&S, Del Sol, and BW Anaheim Inn. When I've stayed at DI&S, I felt like all the noise I heard came from inside that horse shoe. When they were remodeling BW Anaheim it was SO loud at DI&S. I just don't think you'll hear noise like that from the gateway project. Now, would I stay at Tropicana or Camelot during the construction project?...probably no:).

Thanks for the input so far, everyone! A farther away suite option I've look at was Best Western Raffles but it would jump to almost $200 a night and we'd have to take a shuttle. Not sure if that's worth it to avoid construction noise.

We liked the Desert Inn in 2015. It's obviously nothing fancy. It's a bit older. But we are picky either. I did find the bed to be very uncomfortable but I just deal with it. I have since been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis so I am a bit more nervous about the beds this time so we'll see. The only other issue we had was on the first day, the pipe under our sink was leaky. But they sent someone up to fix it in a timely manner so no biggie there. I definitely liked the extra space with the little parlor room. Our son slept in a pack n play in there and we also kept his stroller in that room.

If you or anyone in your family is a light sleeper who would wake up easily to construction noise, you could always bring a white noise machine with you. Or download some white noise "music" on your smart phone and play it on perpetual loop while you sleep.

Yeah, I actually do that already when I sleep. I have white noise on at home too.

My kids are 10 and 8 and they still sleep with a white noise machine in their bedroom. We've taken it with us a couple of times on trips just because they're so used to sleeping with it and it means that even if it's super loud outside the hotel room, we'll all sleep like babies.
