Hey guy! Anyone stayed at Pop Century or any other good value resort? My friend wants to bring her two children at same time as we come back next year (last week July and first week Aug) as she scared she won't be able to handle it on her own and her two kids get on with my DS really well but doesn't know which value resort is best. Any advice? TIA! :)

I've done it as a single mum & at the values. my fav is pop century & my boys loved All Star Movies the best because of the toy story area /Dalmatians etc. however I do think pop century is just fresher, nicer, more modern. the rooms are identical to be honest. another advantage pop has is that the 3 all star resorts share buses & pop has it's own bus service! a big advantage at the end of the day.
I am booked to stay at art of animation next year in the little mermaid section as these are the only standard rooms & the rest are suites so the price is higher, I can't give a review yet but again it's own bus service and I've heard their food court outdoes the others by a mile! fingers crossed they're all right lol.
but please tell her not to worry, as a single parent you worry how you will cope, but honestly your children are entertained from morning to night, are out and about which makes it easier & they are so tired by the time they get back to the room they go to sleep much better than at home lol. cast members will talk to her all over wdw etc. the only tricky bit is meal times if they are small, at buffets etc as you can't leave them at the table but have to control them & get plates of food, that was my big juggle lol

We love POP. Will be there again from December 3rd to 10th!!! POP is nice don't have to share busses like at All Stars.

I have stayed at Pop, All Star Movies and All Star Music. I liked them all and I think they are pretty similar. As others have said, Pop may have a slight advantage in that you don't have to share a bus.

In my opinion, though, the All Star resorts would probably appeal more to (smaller) children, in terms of the overall theming.

My personal favourite, out of the 3 value resorts I've stayed at, is All Star Movies.

Stayed at POP twice and are staying there again in September 2014 for three weeks. We really loved it there but others might say different, each to their own.

I took my two children in 2001 for three weeks on my own because my wife didn't want to come with us. I was really worried because I had never flown before or been on holiday alone with the children, so to do it without the wife was really worrying. We stayed at Movies and everything was fine. Tell Her not to worry and go for it.

Lyndon :)

i've stayed at Pop Century, All Star Sports, All Star Music and Art of Animation

of the above, for a single room, my favorite is Pop Century.

by the way, in addition to the above value resorts, i've also stayed in all of the deluxes and most of the moderates...and also fort wilderness..

i wouldn't hesitate to stay in any disney property....they're all good...all very 'disney'.....

We've stayed twice at the Pop in the past, both with and without kids and enjoyed it.

We went back to the foodcourt for tea last trip and went across the bridge for a look around AoA, it's nice to go for a walk around and see it up close :)

I have also stayed at POP (adults only). I actually really, really like it - the food court and bus service are excellent and the location for us was perfect.

I visited ASMu to see a friend in August, it was nice but didn't have the same feel as POP to me.

I have never stayed at any of the Value resorts but I've visited and eaten at most of them. To be honest, if I were going to be staying at a Value I would either go for Pop or possibly AoA if the price was right. AoA tends to be a little more pricey but it is a beautifully themed resort for kids.

The All Stars are usually cheapest but as a PP said they share buses and in my opinion are not as nice as Pop and AoA. It is always worthy of checking prices for the cheaper Mods too because when you factor in the free dining, they sometimes come back as a better option.

That's great guys, I'll let her know thanks! She has twin boys who will be celebrating their 8th birthday next summer so she was going to surprise them with it for their birthday instead of a party and having me and my son staying at Disney at same time would give her the support net should she start to panic - that's the thought anyway! :) Thanks again! :)

She would be fine wherever she stayed. Honestly, whether you live as a couple or as a single/shared care parent, you take your kids out to school, to the park, to parties, host parties, get them around, care for them when sick .... being at WDW is not really any different. In fact IMO it's probably the easiest place to be, even for someone who did cope. It is different perhaps with a baby or toddler and other kids in the mix, but 8 year olds aren't going to be more difficult to manage, regardless of the resort she stays at

If all else fails there are fantastic kids clubs at Disney for a few hours or an evening if she really wanted some kid-free space

Yeah I'm sure you're right. I think it's more the fact she's never been on hol with them before, they just go on days out during the summer months so it's new territory and hey, we all get anxious and a bit scared at anything new so told her I'd see what you guy thought on here :) Am going to have register with this site coz she's bound to have questions and if she asks herself, she's bound to grow in confidence I reckon :)

Why don't you go and have a look at Pop while you are there and see for yourself if it will suit your friend? You can either jump on a bus from a park or DTD to Pop and check out the food hall, pools and even walk over to AofA and see the food hall and pools there.

Now there's a fantastic idea ::yes::

OP did you not say you had a bit of free time before you leave? Touring the resorts is a lovely non park adventure, especially if you have never stayed onsite or been to any of them

If you are still to do Fantasmic, if you left earlier you could take a boat from Studios to YC too and have a look around there, and then get the boat back to DHS :)

I've stayed at Movies and Pop and Pop is definitely my favourite. The food court is bigger with better options, the bus service isn't shared with 2 other resorts and the location is better as its fairly central in WDW :thumbsup2

We got character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare in morn but could go check out a couple of resorts in afternoon. Thanks for all the feedback though! It seems Pop is a very well liked hotel so will check that out and if it's as good as you guys rate it as, I'm sure she'll love it! :)
