hello.

For my first trip to WDW we are unsure of which hotel to stay at. This is where i require your opinions.
The options are:

-Port Orleans French Quarter (mainly for price, location is an issue)
-Wilderness Lodge ( price is attractive, but location an issue again)
-Boardwalk Inn (for location, like this one the most)
-Caribean Beach Resort (mainly for price)
-Swan/Dolphin (mainly for price but the fact that we wont be able to use
ME is a BIG factor as we will be coming from London)

I know there is alot of options but its very hard to choose. So this is why we need your help.

Thanks for any advice. :goodvibes

Have you thought about hiring a car? Its the best way to get around especially if you want to dare I say go shopping or to another theme park.

I have not sayed at any of those hotels (but I have been to some of them for meals and nights out and Broadwalk is probably the best for entertainment) so I cannot give you my opinion on rooms etc but I have to say that location is not really an issue when staying at Disney. All of the hotels have buses that run from the hotels to all of the theme parks/ water parks and DTD. The only time you will have trouble is if you are planning on going to the different resorts for dinner etc. If you dont have a car you will have to go to DTD from your resort and then change buses which can make the journey quite long.

I really think that you should consider getting a car even if its for a few days. It gives you more options.

Can you tell me who will be attending, and what ages? In the absence of that, comments on the hotels you have raised as options:

If just adults, and you can afford it, Boardwalk, hands down. Lovely, graceful, convenient to Epcot and MGM, compact, many great dining options nearby.

If children older than 4, younger than 14, Wilderness Lodge, hands down. Architecture tremendously impressive to kids, convenient to MK

If you can't afford Boardwalk or WL, POFQ and CB are both wonderful for kids and adults; choice between them is fairly personal; I would advise, if kids coming, POFQ--POFQ and its sister resort POR have more of a kid-friendly look and feel to me than CB; if just adults, either.

S/D not a good choice given your better alternatives. Remarkably ugly architecture, short on Disney magic.

Good luck!

My choices in order of personal preference would be:

Boardwalk Inn - amazing location, but this will be the most expensive option for you
Wilderness Lodge - phenomenal theming and actually quite a good location in terms of proximity to the MK
Port Orleans FQ - smaller, more intimate feel of the resort over CBR and it's location is just as good as CBR
Caribbean Beach - huge resort, great pool
Swan/Dolphin - not a "true" Disney resort, but lovely with nice ammenties and great location

You've got a wide array of choices there and won't go wrong with any.

thanks for all your help so far.

And in reply to DavidHobart it will be just me and my friend going. We are both 18.

So no little children to slow us domn :rotfl2:

You can also go to the theme park of where you are dining at (lets say you want to go to Boma at the animal kingdom Lodge) you can go to animal kingdom and pick up a bus to the lodge there. Same with the other Disney Resorts. Just go to the theme park where you need to be and take a bus. Tha'ts another option. Still long, but depending on how close you are, may not take quite as long.

It sounds like if you want to go to Carribean Beach Resort, you should go! I hear it's beautiful!

If you do want to hire a car, I would make plans ahead of time. Since you are both 18, it may be more difficult. Many car rental companies won't rent to anyone under 21, and some won't rent to under 25.

since you are coming from Britian - I might go with Pop Century and you can stay 2 weeks.

:rotfl: My wife and kids have made two trips to the world. Our first stay was at the Carribean Beach. We had a very nice stay, we asked for and recieved a preferred room location, that helped beacuse it was close to the main market, resturant, and themed pool as well as close to a bus stop. When we planned our second trip my initial inclination was to stay there again because we had enjoyed it so much.
Pros of CBR: very pretty, preferred room option was great. Plenty of seating
in the counter service area of the resturant. Service was great
Cons of CBR: the sit down resturant is very small, the counter service dining
choices are limited. theme pool is small
(I know the con list is longer but we really liked this resort)

My wife decided that she would like to try somthing new so we chose the Coronado Springs Resort. They do not have preferred rooms. We did request a building close to the main market, resturant area and got one.
Pros of CSR:  very big theme pool with cool water slide, very pretty
grounds The market is very nice as are the dining options.
The Counter Service choices are much broader than at the CBR
and the sit down resturant is much bigger. this is due to this
Resort being Disney's convention Center. Service was great
here too.

Cons of CSR:This is Disney's Convention Center. There were a couple of
groups there while we were there. I guess this turns some
people off. We didnt mind at all. One of the groups were law
enforcment folks and it made you feel safe. the resort is also
very :headache: big. If you dont have a room close to the main
area its a long walk.

Im in the process of convincing my wife we should go back next summer 08, after taking a year off and being rather depressed with no disney this year, Im hoping to be successful. If we return its either Coronado or Animal Kingdom if I can get enough points on my Disney rewards visa card.

by the way, a co worker of mine has always enjoyed the Port Orleans resort. but i dont have any specific info on that we havent tried it yet

the Magic Express Service is denfinitley worth it and I would reccomend that it play a part in your resort choice. We checked our bags here in syracuse and didnt see them again until they got to our room, on our return trip we checked our baggage at the resort and didnt deal with them again until the airport at home, its great!

2005 Carribean Beach Resort 6 nights
2006 Coronado Springs 7 nights

Good Luck and have fun!

Does anyone know if Disney rents rooms to someone 18? I know where I live you must be 21 to rent a hotel room.
This could obviously put a damper on the OP's plans

disney will allow someone 18 to stay in the room with an older adult - so I would say they definitely allow renting.
