We are coming to the USA in either September or early December this year. We are going to do a week at Disneyland (Anaheim) then stay in San Diego for a week as we want to go to Seaworld, San Diego Zoo, Legoland and then a day shopping at the outlet mall in Carlsbad.

Would we be better staying in San Diego or Carlsbad to go to these four places? We will not have a car (can't cope driving on the other side of the road :lmao: ) so we will be taking taxi's from the hotel to these places. I have read that there is a bus company where we can take a tour to legoland for the day from San Diego hotels and Anaheim hotels, which we could do it staying in San Diego or Anaheim. Would we be better doing Legoland tour from San Diego or Anaheim, which is it closer to?

We really just don't know which area would be best to stay in to do those 4 places. We were just going to stay in Anaheim for the whole trip and do day tours to Legoland, Zoo, Seaworld but thought that is ridiculous, we may as well take Lux Bus and stay in San Diego for a week.

Also hotel recommendations in San Diego would be best for where we are wanting to go bearing in mind we won't have a car. We like to stay in 4 or 5 star hotels.

Sorry for all of the questions, I have been looking on the maps but can't work out which would be our best option not knowing the area.

Appreciate any help and advice. :goodvibes

Hmmm. Since you don't want to drive at all, you might be better off staying in San Diego and then moving to Carlsbad for your two days up there. San Diego and Carlsbad are far enough apart that a taxi ride between the two would be pretty expensive. (Legoland is closer to San Diego than it is to Anaheim.)

As far as Sea World and the Zoo goes, any hotels downtown, in Hotel Circle, or San Diego Bay would be fine for getting taxi service to/from. I live here, so I don't stay in hotels, but based on what I've heard, the W or the Westin downtown are nice, as are the Sheraton and the Hyatt near the Convention Center. There's also a Hilton at Mission Bay (close to Sea World), and a Sheraton on Harbor Island (near the airport).

If you choose to stay in Carlsbad, there's a nice Sheraton right next to Legoland - it even has its own entrance to the park.

Hope that helps!

The Hyatt Regency Mission Bay has a water taxi that takes you to Sea World. I think when we were there last year it was about $5/person (round trip). It wasn't the fastest way to get to Sea World but we thought it was kind of fun taking a boat over there. I know that doesn't help with getting to the other places you want to go but thought I would mention it since it's a different way of arriving at Sea World.

Thank you all for your replies :goodvibes. We do like the idea of Mission Bay area but will look at all of those hotels. We can do a tour from the San Diego hotels to Legoland so will organise that rather than stay in Carlsbad I think. So many decisions :rotfl:

G'day,

You might consider taking the train between Anaheim and San Diego.

We took the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from Anaheim station to downtown S.D. I believe it cost less than $20 per person each way.

There are several nice hotels within walking distance of the S.D. station. From there, you could take a bus, trolley, or taxi to any of the tourist sites.

We visited Australia earlier this year. Where are you from?

Cheers mate.

Just saw this post. Last summer we went to San Diego/Sea World in August. We stayed at the Dana on Mission Bay. We absolutely loved this resort. Make sure you book the newer portion of the hotel. The balcony views of the bay are awesome and customer service was fabulous!!! The best part is that it is the closest hotel to Seaworld. We walked there 2 days and is about 7 or 8 minutes. Nice walk! The resort will also arrange shuttle to the zoos for you if you ask the concierge. This may fit in nicely with your plans. have a great trip!
