Hotel decisions...

I'll be going to Disneyland in March, and I'm a little unsure as to which hotel to pick. We're currently booked at the Del Sol, but some of the Trip Advisor and Yelp reviews are making me a little unsure... The hotel will basically just be a place to sleep, so I'm not expecting a whole lot, but since we're staying for 6 nights, I DO need it to be reasonably comfortable (decent beds and good showers) and CLEAN. It'll be me, my BF, and my 5yo DD, so I definitely want to stay within easy walking distance for breaks. Having a nice pool is also a plus, as I'm hoping for nice weather and my DD absolutely LOVES water. Other hotels I'm considering (based on price/location) are the Tropicana, Candy Cane Inn, and Desert Inn.

So what do you think? Is the Del Sol really as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be? Is the Candy Cane Inn really just THAT good that I should book there, even though its a little further? What about the other two??

We stayed at the Desert Inn many years ago and the location was perfect. The only time we were in the room was to sleep and shower, so it worked well for us. I would book again, but they are full on the dates we need it. :-(

The continental breakfast wasn't much, but McDonald's is right there, so we utiliized that if we had too (especially for the ice cream cones as we left Disneyland for the night).

I am leery of the Del Sol because of those reviews, but I've never stayed there so I don't know for sure.

I'm not sure what the "other two" you refer to are, there are many hotels on the "Harbor strip" LOL. We've stayed at CCI a few times, it's clean, it's comfy, it's close, we liked the free breakfast, we loved the free shuttle, there is plenty of parking. It is a bit more money but it's a nice hotel. We've stayed at the HoJo, it's our go to hotel if we aren't using our timeshare points, it's very clean, very comfy, great staff and if you can get the retro rate it's a great deal, it's the same distance as the CCI ime. Anaheim Plaza, clean, comfy, big rooms, same walking distance as the other two I've mentioned and they have some killer rates as well. AP does charge for parking ($4 per day when we stayed last) but the lot is huge and they will let you park there on your check out day so you can run to the parks one last time. Tropicana, about the same as the AP, however they charge $8 for parking and their room rates are much higher. They do offer a breakfast but it was really not good at all, second rate fruit, plain cereal, bad pastries, not for us anymore. For a while it was our go to hotel on Harbor, but it has since been replaced by the HoJo, CCI or AP.

The other two I meant were the Tropicana and the Desert Inn. Parking isn't an issue for us, as we'll be flying to SNA and then taking a cab or something to the hotel. The Del Sol reviews sound scary! I booked it because it was close and reasonably priced, and the priceline reviews were alright... But looking into it more is making me super nervous.

We just stayed at Ramada Plaza Maingate at the Park. Location was good, maybe 1 more minute from Desert Inn. We choose between the 2, Ramada was $120 less total for 5 nts. It was good, but not great. We booked a deluxe, got a Premium room, which had been updated, but showed signs of wear if you asked me. Little things, nothing major. But was very clean. Our door didnt close tightly, and a beam of light came through the opening at night. No big deal, but not very soundproof. The pool looked good, and must have been heated, cuz lots of kids playing in the morning and late night. Thus the soundproofing door issue.

I have stayed at HoJos in the past. I loved the shorter walk at Ramada, but Hojos rooms are much nicer. Much bigger, better fixtures, also clean, love the indoor coridors for low sound. I might try another close hotel next time if I can get a good rate. Otherwise, back to Hojos at the retro rate.

We stayed at the Del Sol in Dec. '09 and it was just plain gross. It seemed ok at first...but after spending a few minutes inside it was clear that it wasn't. There was a HUGE stain on the on the side of the bed that was just disgusting ..it was fresh looking. Once we switched rooms everything seemed ok until two people from our group got locked in the bathroom. The door knob just decided to get stuck and not turn. it was horrible! And then since we are speaking of the bathroom .. super tiny.. no air... the shower head was way too low (at the time I was like 5'6), and the water temp constantly went from hot to cold. it wasn't a very happy shower.

To me.. we were paying way more than it was actually worth. The hotel was SO cheap and yet i feel it should have been even CHEAPER. We don't spend much time in our hotel room.. but because we do need to spend some time in it we want to make sure it is clean and comfortable. We like the Anaheim fairfield inn. It isn't that far from the park entrance, is reasonably priced, and clean!

We stayed there once in 2005 (for the start of the 50th) and we will never go back. Yes, it was as gross as trip advisor says. (I think I wrote a report.) I'll save up more before having to stay there again.

My family just got back(ME,DW,DD(7),DS(3),MIL). We stayed at the del sol for four nights. Honestly, it wasn't horrible. The price was good, and the location was EXCELLENT. The continental breakfast was almost non existent though.

The rooms were okay, nothing special. Our room seemed clean. It was a place to sleep and shower. If you are comfortable in a motel six (we are), you will be okay here.

In the future, I would consider staying at the del sol for short trips 2-3 days. I found that we were spending about $40 per day on breakfast, sometimes more. So, for longer trips, it would be worth while to spend a little more and find a place with a good continental breakfast.
