Hi guys, we are going on a 1 week Disney Cruise in Decemeber and have 1 extra day when we get off, so we have decided to go to Universal Studios for the day with our DD-8 & DS-5. We will need 1 nights accomodations around Universal.....any suggestions. Not looking for hotels with great pools etc., just somewhere nice and clean to sleep the night after we do Universal.....any suggestions for the not super expensive places such as Portofino?? Thanks!!!

I usually stay at HRH but if cost is a factor Royal Pacific is supposed to be great! The front of the line express pass that you get for staying onsite is well worth it!

if the price for the onsite hotels are not what you want, the Doubletree usually has a decent price.
their shuttle is not as wonderful though.

go to www.universalorlando.com

check out the packages for off site accomadations for universal.

don't buy the package, just use this as a guide for what is out there around UO for it's location, price, distance to the park and amenities.

once you find the off site hotel you are interested in, then do a search on it by using the hotel website.

sometimes if you call and inquire, you can get a promo at the hotel/offsite.
not all promos are listed on the hotel websites.

i do agree with the pp.
rph is a fabulous hotel to stay.

after you factor in costs of transportation to the park and back to the off site hotel, and time involved, sometimes you can see the benefit of staying on site.

I would definitely consider staying at the HRH particularly because you have only a day. You save a lot of time short walk to parks, food and entertainment. Not to mention a very lively hotel with lots of activities

I really like the Royal Pacific.
It is equivalent to the Polynesian for a lot less money in my opinion.
It was remodeled last year.

All the onsite hotels are nice, much better then Disney value wise (IMO) although they have gotten more expensive lately.

Royal Pacific is least expensive and it is a short walk to the parks.
If you have AAA you may be able to get a AAA rate if you call in.

You also get the benefit of front of the line access so you can do everything in one day.

If you’re looking for something a little less expensive then the Sheraton Studio City is around 100 per night. (less if you want to risk hotwire) This is a decent hotel and was also remodeled recently.

If you are looking for an off-site hotel, there are many options around Universal or if you would be open to going further South from Universal along International Drive or Universal Boulevard by the Convention Center (but still only about 10 minutes from Universal, depending on traffic) - there are many more options. Depending on your budget and star level of hotel you would want - the Doubletree at Universal Entrance and Crowne Plaza are popular 3-1/2* hotels close to Universal (Doubletree is very close) and Hyatt Place and Four Points are popular 3* star hotels close to Universal. These four hotels are frequently available on Hotwire as well.
