I am sitting at the business center in the Hilton we are staying at in Lancaster, PA while DH and DD are napping and a thought came to mind. Whenever I get to my hotel room no matter where I am I always take the bedspread and immediately take it off the bed and put on the floor so no one touches it. How about you? Are you as grossed out by those nasty unwashed bedspreads or do you keep them on the bed and not even think about what's on it that you can't see?

I think of it like the way I think of a seat on a New York City subway or bus.

When I was at the Contemporary, they were putting fresh clean ones in the rooms of those who had checked out.

Nah... I don't worry too much about germs. There's too many germs in the world to worry about. Besides having contact with some germs builds your immunity.

I figure when we were kids we ate dirt, etc and I grew up just fine, albeit a little dysfunctional!:)

My mom always made us pull the sheets way up so the blanket and bedspread wouldn't touch our faces. I always thought that was weird. I mean, they wash them don't they? Don't answer that, I don't want to know the truth.

I guess I still try to keep the sheets between me and the rest of the bedding, but if I get cold enough, I guess I'd take my chances.

I just won't ever bring a black light with me....

Ditto on the removal. When we rode trip I even bring my own sheets & pillow. Other times I forget about it, and just endure it.

If I'm justing sitting I don't worry about it. However, if I'm going to lay down I pull the bedspread down along with the blankets.

Well, considering I liked one soooo much one time that I stole it.... That was when I was around 18 and vacationing with some friends, but now I guess I really don't give it much thought. I use it if it's cold enough.

I don't give it much thought either. Maybe I am being ignorant by presuming it is clean, but sometimes ignorance is bliss :p

Mine gets pealed off as soon as we enter the room.

Other things my wife disenfects with those whipy things are:

remote control----eeeeeww!
doorknobs---especially the bathroom
telephone

we also like to get one of the towels wet and wipe down the inside of the drawers.

We have issues.

:teeth:

I think we would go crazy if we tried to eliminate all the germs we come in contact with each day... I mean, think about your day and what you encounter. So, I don't worry about it too much, though I do make sure I don't let the comforter touch me too much at night, but I still use it.

Aimee, I'm with you. I mean, think about the rides at the park; I'm sure more than one kid used the bathroom or picked his or her nose without washing up after and then touched the ride bars. (I'm actually more concerned about that....LOL....but it is more about picking up a cold/flu bug than germs in general, so my kids and I carry those waterless gels to use before we eat anything, or just periodically while we're in the parks.)

we also like to get one of the towels wet and wipe down the inside of the drawers.

Another thing mom wouldn't let us do...unpack our suitcase into the drawers. Everything had to get hung up (apparently the hangers they supply are germ free -- ha) or left in the suitcase.

Talk about issues. Of course, to this day, I don't unpack into drawers.

Uhh, you do know the bedspread is washed every second day right? With BLEACH.

Does that count the days the visitors change?

I mean, the Smiths stay Sun-Friday and the Joneses stay Friday-Sun.

Sun - change
Tues - change
Thurs - change
Saturday - change

Do Joneses get dirty bedspread first night? Stupid question, but valid.

I try to keep the sheet in between me and the bedspread, but I don't worry too much :confused3. At least not at WDW - they're magically sterile, aren't they ;)?.

I am much more concerned with other things at WDW - like the guns on Buzz Lightyear. Ewww . I use them, but I always feel like I need to wash my hands afterwards. The last thing I want is to catch someone's illness while I'm on vacation. That is much more likely from something that thousands of hands have touched than it is from a bedspread.

I strip the bed back to sheets even if I'm fully clothed and just going to read or nap. But it's more of a consideration "thang" than a germ phobia. (I.E., I won't spill a snack or accidentally drool on the upper bedding for the cleaning staff/next occupant;)).

Denise < --- always vigilant to new germs to build up her immunity ;)

I bring my own blanket/bedspread and pillows from home. After watching a special on CBS a few months back about the types of things found on walls, sheets, bedspreads, etc. , I am just not comfortable with a bedspread on my bed that has not been washed. Also, the fact that a drooler may have slept on the pillow the night before me:eek: I don't use bedding without washing it after having guests, so why use it after someone I don't even know.

Says who?

We once checked into a Disney resort and there was a somewhat fresh, shall we say....spot, right on the bedspread....maybe a Hershey Kiss melted there? Who knows...I didnt do any research on it.....I guess it must not have been the "second day" though?

:crazy2:

After working housekeeping when I was in college for 6 weeks I don't use the hotel pillows and I always pull the beadspread off (and I take plastic gloves with me to do take them off with.) The stuff I saw doing hotel housekeeping was so gross...I still have a hard time staying in hotels! And NEVER EVER will I ever take a bath in a hotel tub!!!! I wear socks at all times on the carpets and I keep antibacterial wipes with me and wipe down the door handles and such! I'm not germ phobic I've just seen some really nasty stuff in rooms and I know how we were TOLD to clean the room.
