Hotel bedspread question.......

See! See! I knew it was not just me who got grossed out at these places. I take the spread off, If there is a washer I wash the sheets but first I wash the washer by doing an empty load with hot water and disinfectant. I can never ever ever take a bath. Sitting in a tub makes me feel like I am sitting in a toilet bowl. I use to put a towel on the floor of the shower but it blocked the drain and then the yuccky water would back up on my feet. I must be the dumbest person in the world because this year was the first year I got the bright idea to use flip flops in the shower. I never go w/o shoes at the least I wear socks. Sorry but I was like this before the CBS special. Mymother would never let me put my clothes in the draws either!

I don't worry too much. I think there is nothing on those bedspreads, remotes, etc. that is not on the bars of every ride... the money we use everyday... door knobs and handles - heck, even merchandise we pick up to look at.

I can't go through life sanitizing the air my family breathes and/or everything they touch..... so I guess you could say I am just leaving it up to chance.

:)

I guess we have issues as well.
I pull the bed spread to the way bottom of the bed.
I also like the idea of bringing wipes to wipe down remote control etc. Think I'll get me some of those.
On our last vacation when we arrived, they took the comfortor off the beds and folded them. We were left with a duvet cover that they changed (I think) every day. But the thing on the inside of the duvet, I don't know.
I also like hotels that have a sheet, a blanket, and another sheet, cause I don't think they wash the blankets all the time either.
And I never walk around without shoes or slippers. Husband does though:(

My sister used to work for the Hyatt Corporation, and she said the bedspreads do not get washed every night there. Not even every week as a matter of fact. Usually when they start to look dirty or spotted they will replace it with a fresh one and wash the old one.

Threrefore, I will always pull it down to the end of the bed before I sit or lay on the bed.

I work in a school. I'm exposed to so many germs on a daily basis that sitting (while clothed) on a bedspread isn't going to make any difference.

I'm lucky my family doesn't have any immune deficiency issues, so I really don't worry about it. Life's too short to worry about touching remotes and doorknobs.

I peel them off also. The thought of what could be on them is really gross.

Last month, we stayed at a Holiday Inn in Tennessee. When we got to the room, DH started pulling off the bedspread to find there were no blankets on the beds. DH suggested we use the bedspreads as blankets -- not a good idea to me. We ended up calling housekeeping and requesting blankets. Apparently they don't put blankets on their beds during the summertime. Hard to imagine.

My DH had spent alot of time in hotels traveling for work before I met him so he is very touchy about them. We remove it. And on our first trip to WDW we stayed at a Days Inn on 192 and the sheets had what looked like dried unwashed blood on them.....yuck!!! We went to the Walmart Supercenter and bought sheets and a comforter to use. Then the next year we flew down and bought a big duffel bag to pack the sheets and comforter in.

Why not just call housekeeping and ask them to bring you a clean bedspread. I just tell them that I would like one. Its a lot easier.

I don't worry too much about it but I don't like the blanket to touch me. I always check everything. If it's fesible I like to bring my own but sometimes that just not realistic.

I worked in Housekeeping ( Mousekeeping) in WDW during the CP. I could tell you how/when they change the blankets but I won't... :)

Boy, I though I was germ-phobic! :crazy2:

Two things I'll now have on my mind next week: Lysol and Strict Hand Washing. (I think the spray is more effective than the wipes on surfaces).

I read on another thread there was a woman in the hot tub at SAB giving herself a pedicure/scraping her feet in the water. That grosses me out way more than any bedspread stories! :scared1:

I remember seeing a special on t.v. about what is on hotel bedspreads and it has grossed me out for the rest of my life:crazy2: Therefore, I don't pull the bedspread all the way off the bed, but I do pull it down so my DD sits on the blanket instead of the bedspread.

Man, I can't imagine my life worrying about every little germ. My brother in law is so fanatic he bought an RV so he would never have to stay in a hotel room or go to a public bathroom. I never once concerned myself about the bedspreads except for the fact that they're so hard and stiff I don't care to have them on me.

My girlfriend worked in housekeeping during the summer while she was in college and she told me sometimes she didnt even change the sheets between visitors!!!!

Uhh, you do know the bedspread is washed every second day right? With BLEACH.

Where did that info come from? I've worked in the hotel industry for 20+ years (major national chains) and that is not the case. You're better off taking them off.

Well after staying at a disqusting Best Weste*n a couple of years ago, we bought a camper and now "take our beds" with us. I used to not think about it when I was younger, but now I don't want my kids getting all over the beds; not knowing what the people who checked out that morning may have been doing in there!

Instead of bringing your own sheets/comforters or blankets, why not call down for a new set? Seems like those would be clean right?

I'm 45 yrs old, been staying in hotels my entire life never caught anything from a hotel stay. There are germs everywhere and we need to be exposed to help our immune system. I've got enough going on in my life to start worrying about the germs everywhere I go would make me crazy.

You'd all better be careful before slipping into those sheets. We got lice....and not the head kind either.....from probably unwashed sheets at a hotel. I can't even tell you how creeped out I am now about staying in a hotel.
