Hotel bedspread question.......

I'd pick it up with tongs if I had some with me. And there is not a snowballs chance in heck that any of us would sleep with a hotel bedspread! The thought grosses me out beyond belief. We usually bring our own linens. I know, I am obsessive about such things, but unless I am staying at a resort where I am familiar with the cleanliness factor, then I'm sleeping on my own sheets and blankets.

No, it didn't happen from a hotel at WDW. I always pull down the comforter and keep the blanket pulled way down on the bed, so it had to be from dirty sheets. We were in a daze that trip. My Dad had suddenly passed away and we were taking a quick trip down there to take care of things. What a trip it turned out to be! From then on I take an extra good look at the sheets to make SURE they are clean. I don't take anything for granted anymore.

We do! I am so paranoid about it. It's not really germs I am worried about... I can do cold/flu germs. Its... uh.. other things...

The cbs special freaked me out and I HATE staying in hotels now.
The thought makes me cringe. We will bring our own sheets after seeing this thread. Its sooooo gross. :earseek:

Yep - we got some of those sheets on site at WDW. YUK!
To their credit there was a mix-up and housekeeping didn't realize a new family was checking in. I'm sure they normally change between visitors.
I knew there was a problem when there was still a porta-crib & mini fridge we had not requested in our room. Won't gross you out by telling you how I confirmed that the sheets were not fresh. Ewww!
Luckily we had 2 rooms and we all slept in one that first night and then specifically requested clean linens and towels for both rooms.

I always take the bedspreads completely off, fold them up and put them in a corner.

That was EXACTLY what I was referring to when I started this thread. If it was just the *germ* factor, I would never leave the house. I am talking about the naked body parts(some not so clean), bodily fluids, etc.. etc.. etc.. Just thinking about it makes me gag:crazy2:

Mine gets pealed off as soon as we enter the room.

Other things my wife disenfects with those whipy things are:

remote control----eeeeeww!
doorknobs---especially the bathroom
telephone

we also like to get one of the towels wet and wipe down the inside of the drawers.

We have issues.

:teeth:
I do the same things except the drawers. I clean the tub too!

Ewww...to be honest, I do have a problem with the bedspreads and don't even like to think about it.

When I just saw the title of this thread I got the heebie jeebies!

I've worked at a hotel for the last 3 years. Thats where it comes from.

Maybe its just our hotel but the Executive Housekeeper is a friend of mine and that's what she told me.

I usually remove the bedspread only to sleep, and always check the sheets before getting into bed.
I checked into Pop Century last month and when I sat on the bed and stuck to it. I immediatly stripped both beds and called mousekeeping to come and change everything.
They were very angry when I insisted that they replace every piece of linen in the room. I showed them the sticky (it looked like a lolipop was layed down on the bedspread) but she insisted that the linens were all changed. She did change everything but not willingly. I stood in the room and watched her to make sure.
I don't bring the wipes but that is definately a good idea. I think I will wipe the tv remote from now on, especially in the hotels that have the pay channels. lol Peggie

No. But I always think about that stuff when I sit on the bed. :crazy2: I remember seeing a show on TV where they went into a hotel room with a special light of some sort that showed unspeakable stuff all over the room. :scared1: :scared1: Since then, I am NOT fond of hotels at all!! :crazy2: They're gross!!

I never gave it a second thought until we traveled with our dog. The way he went crazy smelling all over the beds gave me the creeps.

I agree that I'm not a germ phobic person I am fearful of the "bodily fluids" that are in the room and on things!

This article talks about the tv remote and that the germs found on the remote were actually ones you would expect to find in a toilet!

A lot of hotels have cut back on housekeeping so these people are now only allowed about 6-8 min on each room. I can't clean my bedroom, bathroom, change sheets, pillows or blankets, vacuum, dust, and wash the mirrors in 6 min.

I have a ton more articles about it but it's grossing me out to keep pulling them up. LOL

My kids 7&5 know not to touch a thing in our room until my DH and I take off the bedspread, clean the bathroom, and clean all handles.

 Ewwwww... Maybe that's why some hotels don't accept pets. lol j/k

On that note, why worry about the sheets and bedspreads only when the mattress itself can be harboring infestations and bodily fluids. Yuck.

I not only sanitize the room and bathroom with Lysol and wipes, but I am starting to bring my own sleep sacks like what the people visiting hostels use. You can make one using a sheet and sew it accordingly.

I'm tempted to bring a black light with me, too, but I know I will be grossed out and want to sleep in the car. lol

I do not like the Comforter on me at night anyway, so it gets shoved to the bottom of the bed.:o I KNOW when I am sleeping in not too clean sheets, I break out in a rash the next day!:earseek: I than strip the bed, and leave a note for NEW clean sheets.::yes:: Its only happened once, but that is how I know.:o

My DH and I are also considering buying an RV for this very same reason. I am not usually obsessive compulsive about germs in my every day life, but for some reason hotels, even very nice ones, make me crazy.

The kids and I just got back from visiting DH at Ft. Drum and we stayed in a fairly nice hotel, but still just from walking around in the room our socks were filthy. I'd hate to think of what else is lurking around there. And I don't even want to contemplate what is on the beds! I spent what seemed like the whole vacation lecturing my daughter not to put her face on the bedspread, only let the sheets touch her, etc. Then there was the time she put her stuffed animals on the bathroom floor...

I went three nights with practically no sleep because I was so paranoid about letting the blankets touch me, yet I was freezing cold. I know I encounter germs everywhere I go in my real life but just think about what is done on those beds ;)

Funny someone else brought up the RV thing, because we saw an ad for an RV informational video on tv while we were there and I made DH call from the hotel room! :)

:3dglasses
First thing when we arrive at the hotel is to peel the bedspread off and put it in the corner of the room (for the rest of the stay).

Can't handle walking without shoes on the carpet either. My favorite new obessions. Thanks to the dis is the remote control.

A disser suggeste plastic ziploc baggie. Slip the remote control in it and zip it up . No more germs.

I use to work for a four star hotel. it will remain nameless. The housekeeping personal only washed the bedspreads once a month. Or IF they got really bad. :wave2:

What about the shower curtains HUH!!! Don't like sitting in the tubs!!!!:magnify:
