I know there are only a few options compared to Disney World. When we went to Disney World, we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter (a moderate resort)....what hotel is the best for families at DisneyLand? We want to stay on property!!! Thanks!

I just recently stayed at the DL Hotel. It was wonderful for familes. The Neverland Pool is delightful. If you stay, check out the pool at night, there's a nice surprise. When we checked in, Goofy was in the lobby watching TV with the kids. It is just a short walk to the monorail or a stroll through Downtown Disney to the main gate plaza.

I highly recommend it.

I agree--the Disneyland Hotel is great for families.

However, staying onsite at DL is not the same as onsite at WDW. Many of the offsite hotels are actually closer to the parks than the DL ones.

You don't have the extensive themeing or grounds at any of the hotels here, because there just isn't the land to do that.

You might want to check out the Candy Cane Inn (it's similar in room size and decor to POFQ)

or the Howard Johnson's

But if you really want a Disney hotel, I'd say the DH is your best bet. :thumbsup2

I second the Candy Cane. Because we wanted to try something different this year, we stayed at the DLH. However, we usually always stay at the Candy Cane. We love the shuttle and the free breakfast.

I try and stay on property when in DL, although yes, some of the GN hotels are closer to the park entrances. However, GCH has its own entrance into DCA and the DLH is steps away from the "opposite" side of DTD. And the DLH offers the monorail straight into Tomorrowland, so it's not like it's that long a walk.

If you want to think of the DLR in terms of WDW, the GCH would be the deluxe resort, DLH is moderate and PPH is the value resort. I haven't stayed at GCH, but have stayed at the others. I really like both, but the DLH is my fave. PPH is a bit of a walk from the monorail and park entrances.

It is price a little lower than GCH or DLH, but it is very nice. It has indoor corridoors, room service, and rooms have 2 queens plus a single person sofabed. It has views of the Paradise Pierarea of CA. PPH is WAY, WAY nicer than the value resorts at WDW. It is priced less because it is a little further from the parks than the other 2 resorts. The best way to save money at DLR is to stay at an offsite hotel. There are many that are within walking distance of the parks. In fact, many are alot closer than PPH.:goodvibes

I would have to agree that the PPH is definately NOT a value resort in any way.

Technically, based on accomodations/perks/guest services & benefits, all three DLR hotels would be classified as deluxe resorts, even at WDW.

GCH is the DL version of an ultra deluxe, like the Grand Floridian is at WDW.

DLH and PPH would be more in line with something like the Contemporary at WDW. (All are older properties that lack the in-your-face-elaborate-over-the-top theming, other than the Neverland pool which is elborately themed, but they are still great places to stay with nice pools/slides, deluxe perks, and offer some spectacular park views.)

Hopefully Disney will manage a LARGE moderate level hotel/resort over at the new Garden Walk. I can hardly wait for that to happen. Hopefully, from this location, they'll include free scheduled transportation to the parks too.

Any of the DLR hotels are wonderful for families, but the GCH and the DLH are more conveniently located.

One thing though.....whenever we stay at the DLH or PPH, as we walk by GCH, we start thinking "Boy, I sure wish we were staying there!":goodvibes It really is a very beautiful hotel literally steps away from DL, DCA, and DTD. We just can't swallow the price tag though, so we've never stayed there yet.

I prefer Disney's Grand Californian, but unfortunately I cannot afford to stay there every time!!! The bunkbed rooms are great for kids, not sure how many kids you have and what their ages are, but the bunk beds give you three twin beds because they also have a trundle. The pools are really nice and there is just nothing like being right in the heart of DLR - you never have to think twice about going back to the room for something, it is so easy. You have a private entrance to DCA and an easy walk (probably about the same distance) to Disneyland through the main entrance or the Monorail. The hotel has the same designers as WDW's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge, very similar feel. The restaurants are fabulous too.

The Disneyland Hotel is also nice, but not nearly as deluxe as the Grand Californian. It may have more appeal design-wise for the kids though, so might Paradise Pier (I've never stayed there, but I've eaten many times at Yamabuki - my favorite DLR restaurant). I think the both have cool pools - the Disneyland Hotel's pool is designed after Peter Pan's Neverland and the Paradise Pier Hotel has a really big waterslide, but it doesn't actually enter into the pool, it is separate.

Oh, something else to think about if you need a rollaway bed... the Grand Californian does not have them, they have a foam mat and sleeping bags instead - which my niece LOVED, but some people think its really sucky.

The Disneyland Hotel is what you want. It is wonderful.Full of that Disney Magic that we long for. I am planning a trip with my boys next summer and that is where we will be staying at. I hope this helpls! :goodvibes
