So, here it is mid January and I'm trying to shop for summer clothes for our August trip. I'm not having much luck in stores but I started to look online and I am finding a lot, just not much I can afford. From everything I've read about hot and humid travel the one thing that stands out is to avoid cotton and instead wear moisture wicking clothing. Since most everything we already own is cotton or mostly cotton I'm thinking of buying 4 outfits for the four of us. (I figure we could do laundry at the halfway point.) Any ideas were the best deals are for this type of clothing? :confused3 I've spent the past hour looking at sites, but even the t-shirts were around $40 each. Not bad when you only need one or two, but its just too much to spend for all of us.

You are WAY too early. Stores ate just starting to get in early-spring clothes. You need to wait until spring for summer clothes!

And you've still got 6 good months of looking!

Hay dont worry you can but clothes here in Fla all year for the heat. I will warn you it is cold here to.

Agree, too early. Spring goods are flowing to the racks now, and summer clothing will be here late March-May. I wouldn't expect to find deals until Memorial Day. By July 4th clearance pricing will begin (small discounts).

Yes, wait a while to do your shopping (you must be anxious for the trip to get here!).
We always wear light weight cottons in the summer and are very comfortable. :confused3

Agreed on being early, but, when we went to FL 2 years ago in late August, we (meaning DD and I.....DH does his own packing) wore a lot of the "mesh" material shorts & skorts from Target. I believe they were Champion brand. I also ordered some shorts & tops from champion online. Those worked really well and dried really quickly after water rides.

Well if you consider bathing suits spring, then ok. I went shopping with DD yesterday, Belks was full of shorts and bathing suits. I guess being in FL we get stuff in a little earlier than most.

Wow, you must be excited for your trip!!!!

I shop for trip clothes about 2 weeks before I go.

My last trip was in late July. I did the best with "athletic" clothing. I did great at LL Bean. They had some tanks and tops that were for runners/hikers. Very thin, kept moisture at bay, and also had protective SPF fabric. I bought their hiking shorts also (not cotton) and couldn't have been more comfy.

One year I went in June and just wore my regular cotton shorts tops. It was over 100 degrees that week, my shorts were drenched, so much so that they started to stretch out and I had a hard time keeping them up.

Did you check out Athleta? They have some awesome summer clothes and swimsuits. All their new stuff probably isn't out yet, but you may be able to get some, or some sale stuff.

Our Target here in northern Ohio is swamped with swimsuits and summer clothes already. They seem to pull all of it in right when the new year starts regardless of how much snow is on the ground.

I agree that now is too early.

When I lived in Florida, my summer staple was lightweight shorts and tanks. Anything pretty and flowing from those summer catologues of people being photographed on a Nantucket beach won't cut it as cute as they are.

I actually began wearing long shorts and felt more comfortable than in short shorts.

Oh--and LIGHT colors as well. Something that is black or fire engine read or navy blue or anything that is the opposite of light--just will burn you up in the sun.

And I covet Athleta--they had some pieces in there that I am tempted to invest in. Stylish workout wear designed for sweat and heat--perfect for a Florida August vacation.:goodvibes But then we moved and I never took that opportunity.

I would wait until early summer, when things are on sale and even starting to clearance. Kohl's is a good bet, and there are bound to be several coupons out by then! :)

Hay just buy your stuff here in Fla clothes is cheaper here and they have warm weather clothes. We have better styles anyway. lol

If you are looking for moisture wicking clothing you can get it year round at your local running store or online running stores like RunningWarehouse. Big box sporting goods stores will also have them.

Just remember cotton undies & socks & shoes can be a problem too. When we were there in June a few years back DH & DS started to wear board shorts and DD & I started to wear bathing suits under our clothes. Our sneakers got wet and stayed wet until we got home. The only time of day we wore real clothes was at night.
