Hi! DH & I have bumped our 10th Anniversary trip from November to September to take advantage of free dining. We need to save our pennies thanks to friends who've sprung a destination wedding on us for early next year. :headache: :rolleyes1

Anyway, a couple years ago we went during the first week of October and found it opressively hot and humid. We are going during the last week in September this year so Im assuming the weather will be just as bad. :scared:

Im aware of precautions to take and stuff, but does anyone have any tips for clothing for this type of weather? Something that is relatively inexpensive? I looked at Coolmax type stuff online today but found it pretty expensive. We spent that whole week wet during that last trip, I'd like to try to take steps to prevent total saturation this time :rotfl: Im going to bring some cotton blend tanks and stuff but figured if I could add a couple moisture-wicking pieces to this it would be even better.

Any suggestions?

Short of the special "technical" clothing meant for active sports, there are several things you can do.

Stick strictly to pale colors. When going with cotton, light woven shirts are cooler than knits, because knits cling and do not air-dry as quickly as thin wovens. Sports sandals instead of sneakers that require socks, and also can get wet, so that you can dunk your feet in water whenever you like. Investing in "technical" underwear would be the best use of money on that stuff, because damp undies make you feel that much clammier.

Invest in a good wide-brimmed crushable light-colored hat with ventilation in the crown, it really will help you stay cooler.

Last, load up on sunscreen VERY heavily, and choose one with a reflective substance such as titanium dioxide, which will keep your skin cooler-feeling. Any time your skin starts to feel heated, reapply.

We're going at the end of June and basically are planning on wearing tank tops and shorts just about the entire time. I've got my Crocs flip flops and (changeable) water shoes for everyone else so we can all get wet and not have to worry about walking around the whole day with wet feet.

We will all be carrying our own personal fans too.

I've gotten a couple of shirts at Sears and Kohl's. I got one from Sears that is Green! Not really Dis green though.:sad1:
Cotton is the worst thing you could wear.:sad2: And, if you are wearing socks make sure you get the moisture wicking ones. It's surprising what a difference it makes.

We've gone to Florida in June. It's hot. Drink lots of water! We stopped at every water fountain. I wore light cotton T-shirts that I washed in SunGuard. It adds UV protection and made my clothes feel a lot cooler because they reflected more sun. You can buy SunGuard near the dyes at the grocery store. I agree with the titanium dioxide sun block, too. It really helps reflect the sun. On the hottest days I brought a frozen washcloth in a baggie and used it on my face and neck. I also carried one of the small personal fans. It helped make a breeze when I was super hot.

Thanks for the tips!

Now does anyone know where I can find some of the moisture wicking clothing/socks for a relatively inexpensive price?

I just picked up some Champion brand women's underwear at Target (on clearance for $4.88/pair) last week. It was in the section with the sports bras. It's moisture-wicking -- can't wait to try it! Target also has moisture-wicking socks.

Also just got a catalog from TravelSmith last night. They have moisture-wicking t-shirts (Coomax and also another fabric). They're not cheap (around $30 each), but I figure that I might buy two -- that way, if they're the most comfortable things I bring, I can wash them out at night and wear them the whole trip. I did try a Travelsmith t-shirt with Coolmax on my last trip, but I didn't like the way the fabric felt. I'm going to try the other fabric with these new t-shirts.

I got a couple of moisture wicking tees from Land's End. They were $19.99 a piece. Worth every penny. My husband wears moisture wicking tees as well and he swears by them in Florida. The one's from lands end also have an anti odor treatment and an SPF!! No sunburn and no body odor! :woohoo: They are really nice shirts and have really worked. If you are a smaller stature person you can get "tech" shirts in the children's section which is what I do. A lot cheaper with the same properties!

They are especially great if you plan on going on the "wet" rides at AK or Mk. they dry quickly and you aren't soggy all day!
