As you know, or some of you do, I'll be getting laid of soon. A guy I know approached me about opening a gourmet hot dog place together. I'm not 100% sold, but I also am not against the idea.

Anyway, if you have any famous or favorite hot dog places that you can share with me, can you post their websites?

Thanks. :thumbsup2

This got me thinking about Easterbrook's Hot Dog Stand.

Its in a very lived in 50's style building. As you can see from the article they actually serve burgers and ice cream too, I actually didn't know this :rolleyes1. The more important menu (the hot dog one) is listed on individual paper plates that are nailed ALL over the top of the restaurant.

They don't have a web-site but here is an article I found that gives the general idea:

Funny you should bring this up today. Last night my Dad was telling us about a friend that opened a hot dog place that got so successful the owner of the place he was rented kicked him out and he took it over.

Our local place is low budget- no website just a bit of style(he's a big Yankee fan which I like and also Nascar- not so much) so it's basically decorated with Car photos and Yankee stuff.
Nothing fancy on the dogs- just your basics. But they are good. It would be great if he upped the fries quality.

My basic Burger/hotdog/fries place of all time though is this place

The guy has been approached for YEARS to franchise and he won't do it. He won't sell out- he is a quality control freak. The place is always PACKED! Always! We have driven the 2 hours back there just for the quarter pounder with cheese/fries/onion rings.... mmmmmm

then there is the Crif Dogs in the Village. I don't think they have a website either. But after a night out that place is packed too- It was a biker hangout I don't know if it still is.

Good luck! We would come!

Pink's in Hollywood is a very famous hot dog stand. We were in California a few years ago and we made it a point to find Pink's and eat there. We had to wait in line for about an hour, but it was well worth it!:lovestruc

This is a picture of coney island hot dogs from Faneeks in Fall River, Ma. They are so good, its a coney island sauce, with mustard and onions. The hot dogs and the buns are steamed. This place doesn't have a website. They have been in business for as long as I can remember. They are so good! I was a kid when I started going there and they used to have the guy that made the hot dogs, line them up on the inside of his arm and put the stuff on them that way. :scared1: Imagine doing that today with all the health rules!

Thanks, all... and java, I do belive that you have mentioned that place before.... sounds like he could make a mint if he would franchise.

The guy who approached me wants to mostly keep it simple, but also have some awesome homemade and unusual toppings.

BTW, on another note - and I am absolutely unqualified to handle this - I know someone who is opening up a marina in DE. He asked me to help design the kitchen and establish his menu for a small restaurant he is planning, but his idea of "small" is like 10x the size of any place I would want to be involved in.

it is time to just do it. quit being safe and do it. you will not have a job soon and you can sit on the sidelines and wonder "what if" the rest of your life or be bold and make the move to do what you want with your life and take control. there is always an excuse to not do it, but the successful do not make excuses they make the move.

We have a few here in South Fl. One is Hot Diggity Dogs in Dania and the other is Hot Dog Heaven which at one time had 3 locations, but one of the 3 closed...not a good area for a Hot Dog resteraunt.;) Look into the Area and what competition you will have. That is IMPORTANT when starting ANY business..:thumbsup2

Yes, PINKS is the most famous one that I can think of in LA. The celebrities go there , send limo's who buy those scrumptious chili dogs by the sackful.

Nathans hot dogs on the east coast is famous.

In Chicago, the best one around is Gene's and Jude's Red Hot Stand. They keep it simple , but , the place is a gold mine. Very good dogs for years.
Fluky's hot dogs in Chicago is famous for their vienna beef dogs but they have closed many locations. Son couldn't run business like the father did.
Portillo's hot dogs. Super Dawg http://www.hotdogchicagostyle.com/rate_chicago.php#byrons

Here's a link to a site that reviews all the stands in Chicago.

PINKS is amazing!!

We went there the first time in 2007 and we waited in line for about 35 minutes and it was soooo amazing.

We now live near LA and we went around midnight after a taping of Big Bang Theory and we waited more than an hour...AT MIDNIGHT!!! it is crazy but sooo good

Be sure to include something on your menu for those of us who do not eat hot dogs so the rest of the family can come!!!

I live in Buffalo and we have Ted's http://www.tedsonline.com/...and it's very random, but besides Western NY they also have a location in Arizona.

I don't know that I'd call the hotdogs gourmet, but they do excellent business and the food is always good.

I'm sorry to hear about the layoff...I hope everything goes well for you.

I am not sure if this will help but on the foodnetwork there is a show I love called Diners Drive-ins and Dives.

He has put together a book of the places he went. They are very interesting I would love to take a road trip and visit some of those places. A few have been hot dog places.

There is nothing fancy about Portillo's http://www.portillos.com/
Basic toppings but the guy started with a small hut and grew into a empire. anyway they have a diner type order takers very quick very efficient.
