Hot dog recipes?

My boyfriend loves potted meat (YECH DISGUSTING!!) and we once made something kind of close to it with a hotdog. We put a hotdog in the food processor with some chopped onion, relish, salt, pepper and a tiny bit of mayo. Ground it for a few seconds then spread it on crackers. For some reason he loved it :confused3

My mother could feed all 6 kids and both my parents with an 8 pack of hot dogs and a few things from the pantry and we would be full. Way back when my dad got sick and his company didn't have disability insurance and of course there was no food stamps then either. (I am only 56, it wasn't that long ago...)
My mom would fry up some onion and green pepper, slice the hot dogs about 1/2 thick and add the hot dogs to the onions and peppers. They she would add 2 cans of diced tomatoes and cook it for about an hour till it thickened.
We ate it over mashed potatoes. I know, it sounds gross, but it was really very good. I made it once for my picky boys who turned their noses up at it.

Hot Dog Noodle Bake

12 oz cooked egg noodles
2 T Mustard
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup mayo
1 pkg sliced Hot Dogs
Butter
Milk

Mix Mustard, Brown Sugar, Mayo in a bowl to make a sauce add the hot dogs. In a casserole dish put egg noodles with a little milk and butter, then spoon sauce over noodles. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.

Believe me it doesnt sound good but everyone I have made it for has loved it.:goodvibes

I'm late to the party but here goes my df loves to chop up two shallots and adds a little olive oil he then slices thinly two hotdogs and adds about 3 carrots diced and about 1 cup of peas. Its actually really good and I love knowing this was something he came up with as a kinda healthier alternative to plain hotdogs while living on his own.

When I was a kid my mom always made a casserole of Hot Dogs and Scalloped Potatoes.

It sounds weird but it's really delicious. Potatoes in a cheese sauce with thin sliced hot dogs.

this is my grandmother's family recipe, all the kids love it and it gets them to eat veggies they normally wouldn't eat.

Hot Dog Soup

1-2 packages of hotdogs, cut into bite size slices
2-3 cans of peeled whole potatoes
1 can drianed red kidney beans
1-2 green bell pepper (chopped)
1 large can of tomato soup
1 small can of tomato soup

just add all ingredients into large pot. After you add tomato soup, fill can with water mix to get remaining soup mix and add that mixed water to pot.
You want the soup to be more like a broth, not thick.

Cook over stove until hotdogs are plump and cooked, potatoes and green pepper are tender.

serve with dinner rolls..

Slice and cook them in BBQ sauce, then serve over rice. Simple but yummy.

Occasionally my mom would make this dish for the 7 of us:

Sliced hotdogs in V8 juice (the tomato variety!). Heat and serve over rice.

Slice and fry the hot dogs with sliced onions and par boiled chopped potatoes until potatoes and hot dogs are cooked through and lightly browned. Add above ingredients and beaten eggs with your favorite shredded chesse into an omelette pan --for a wonderful and cheap omelette. Serve with fresh cut up fruit and toasted muffins, toast , etc.

my kids love a simpler version of this with just skiced up hotdogs and copped potatoes fried crispy together in a skillet. They top with ketchup. potatoes need to cook longer so start frying them first and add in the hotdogs.

Two of our favorites are Chili Dog Casserole and Corn Dog Muffins.

For the Chili Dog Casserole you grease a 9x13 pan and add 8 hot dog buns torn up. Then layer on 8 hot dogs cut into chunks. Next spread on two cans of chili (with or without beans). Layer on diced onion (if you like) and squeeze or spread some mustard over top to taste. Sprinkle generously with grated cheddar cheese and bake for about 30 minutes at 350.

For the Corn dog Muffins you need 2 boxes of Jiffy corn bread mix, 8 hot dogs cut up, 2 eggs, 1 cup milk, and 11oz. canned corn, drained. Mix all together and fill paper-lined muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake at 400 for about 15 minutes.

:thumbsup2

I just love the disboards. Where else can you subscribe to a thread with 100 ways to make hotdogs!!

(I realize there isn't a 100 recipes for hotdogs posted....yet ;))

I know!!!
I can't stay away from this thread~afraid I might miss a good hot dog recipe.
At the beginning of the summer, hot dogs just kept going on sale. (of course, I had coupons to match) I was buying multiple packages for like 10 cents!
Now I know what to do with all the hot dogs in my freezer!

A long time ago I worked in a department store that allowed Weight Watchers to meet in one of its rooms. One day I saw this recipe on the blackboard: Steam together two hot dogs, two cups of shredded cabbage, and a bit of onion, that have been covered with V-8 juice. Fast and delicious.

:)

I will have to try some of these recipes....although my favorite meal from my childhood is still Beans and Franks, just good ole pork and beans with sliced up dogs with ketchup and mustard! Is disappoints me my kids think its gross...spoiled I think from the dinner options they get compared to what my parents could put on the table and we never complained!
