Bill and I talked about leaving on Friday May 22 right after work (I may take the day off) instead of waiting until Saturday morning so we could stop at WDW for one night before we head to the beach. I had the e-mail from WDW Passholders about $164 studios at SSR and OKW, but these don't start until June. I checked the WDW website, Expedia, Hotwire, etc to see if I could find something. We found the Dolphin for about $169 a night (plus all their fees). SSR and OKW studio was something like $335 a night. TOO MUCH.

So I decide to call MS this morning to see if we could find something on points and they had BWV and SSR available in a one bedroom. ZERO studios. I had transferred points from my one contract into my main contract and I thought they had used them for our BCV reservation that starts the following week. But they hadn't!! I transferred 50 points and needed 50 points. Well, HOT DIGGETY. We have one night in a SSR one bedroom villa before we spend four nights down at Marco. Then back to BCV for nine nights.

I was able to cancel our reservation near Tallahassee and made one for Ocean Springs MS instead for Friday night. And it was cheaper, too.

That is outstanding!! It always feels good to get a deal, save money and get an extra day of vacation. Have an wonderful time. I'm jealous!! :goodvibes

I love it when a plan comes together!

Your thread title made me laugh out loud! :rotfl:

Great news!

There used to be a Welcome Center in Ocala where you could stop and get a great deal on your first night arriving at WDW. They unfortunately have closed that up, however.

Never hurts to call, though, as we can see. Enjoy your stay...

when you could have gotten a room for $335? Doesn't sound like that great a deal to me.

We snagged one of the few remaining studios at SSR in Feb. for DS's surprise birthday trip. They had said there were very, very few of them available...but so anyway, we go on 22nd too! I think we will probably head over to Epcot for the evening to check out the new Kim Possible thing and grab some CS dinner somewhere...

(PS) You know...your siggie DOES say that you'll never, ever stay in a studio again!! Fate that you did not get one?? I think not!!:goodvibes

Deb & Bill,
Sounds like there is pixie dust raining all over this trip. Have a great time! :thumbsup2

The majority of DVC owners do not rent out their points - myself included. So, it is not an "equivalent" of what you perceive to be in rental point income.

I plan my trips around using DVC points only - very rarely do I open my wallet to use cash. And I love it that way! The purpose of my purchasing DVC was to take care of my vacation costs in advance - including cruising. Not to find the "best" deal.

Plus, it is becoming more and more difficult to rent out points to others for cash at the desired price. Certainly not last minute to cover a trip planned for less than 2 weeks away.

So have to say "Sounds like a GREAT deal to me"! LOL. ;)

Let's see Zero $ for a one bedroom versus $335 for a studio. Easy math for me.

We also don't rent out our points. And if we hadn't used these, they would have expired at the end of August. I'd prefer to use points than cash any day. The $335 was for a studio. We got a one bedroom. From my signature, you can see that I really prefer one bedrooms, even for just one night.

AA: Can you just see me waving a wire coat hanger over my head and screaming, "No more wire hangers!!!"? Or do I stand on my land in Georgia, with a fist full of Georgia red clay, sayig " I'll never be hungry again!!"??

Congrats! Those are the kinds of magical moments I just love.:)

I am another one also not interested in the rental thing... We HAVE used cash but only when out of points and didn't want to borrow...

:rotfl: Oh Deb! :rotfl: You have SO-O lost me with that one!! What do wire coat hangers have to do with Georgia red clay, hunger and studios?! :rotfl:

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." Rhett Butler to Scarlet O'Hara when he leaves her.

"I'll never be hungry again." Scarlett O'Hara to the world when she has just about lost everything including Tara and vows not to lose it.

"No more wire hangers." Joan Crawford to her daughter when she finds wire hangers in her room.

"Yes, yes, yes - I need - really need - my king sized bed. BUT I really need that separate shower, too and I will never stay in a studio again!" Deb to the rest of the DIS.

Just some of my favorite vows.

If the max amount of time is spent in the room, 4pm until 10 am, 18 hours, / $500 = $27.75 per hour. WOW and Yikes

I understand the prepaying for our vacations mentality, but I am in the maximize the utility of my points to enjoy my time at Disney Camp. I travel alot on business and always stay at Hilton Hotels so that I can collect points for free stays. When I book "free" stays I try to get the best value. I stretch those points to get the most free stays as practical. Just the way I roll.

Good for you!!!! :yay: I am so glad you were able to get the type of room you wanted and are able to extend your vacation. We bought DVC to be able to use our points whenever we want to, yes, even for weekend stays, or to (horror) :scared1:use points for stays other than at Disney resorts. People use their points on how they feel are a value for their style of vacationing. I say, Good job Deb and enjoy your vacation!!!!

I just found out the Fifth Dimension will be at Epcot that weekend, too. One of my favorite groups. It's getting better and better. And we got an ADR for Crystal Palace for breakfast on Sunday before we head to the beach.

The wire coat hanger almost made me fall off my chair - my mom and I still joke about that movie!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

So glad all is working out for you and I have to add I have NEVER stayed in a studio and after our last trip (with DFIL &DMIL) we gave them the master bedroom - DH and I said NEVER again!!!! We missed the king bed, the HUGE shower and the large tub - which we don't use but DDs think it is their own indoor pool!!

Take me! :) Hope you guys have a wonderful vacation. So far it sounds perfect. We love the Crystal Palace the only other buffet that I would pass it over for on a Sunday would be the House of Blues Gospel Brunch! Talk about never being hungry again...

It's those special DVC ahhh moments that make me so happy! Apparently at one time you were happy to stay in Tallahassee, then the possibility presented itself, and voila, success!!!

I've done that a number of times with scheduled trips to other parts of Florida, or a family vacation that will start later in the week. I say to myself, why not go a bit earlier, with DH, or DF, DSis, or even solo:goodvibes? It really makes the stay that much special, and DVC more precious to me.

We're going to see the Fifth Dimensions on Sunday of Memorial weekend! That was another "add on." The cruise ends on Sunday, did the family really want to go back to WDW for JUST ONE night?!! Silly question!:goodvibes I made the reservations, added another couple to the mix, friends who live in Florida as guests, and so we have MAGIC!!

I'm very happy for you!

I'm with you on this one :). My DH travels on business and I protect those hotel points and FF miles like they are GOLD. I could spend them willy-nilly but I don't. I save them for international travel or vacations to Hawaii. Places that are expensive. Our last trip to Hawaii was on FF miles (NWA) and hotel points (4 nights at the Hilton Waikoloa Village and 5 nights at the Westin Kaanapali Villas which beats the pants off of DVC). I am also very careful about using my DVC points. After over 10 years I am *finally* using them for weekend stays but I still stay in studios, LOL.

Like you, I would never spend 50 points for one night ... especially when I would be on the road the next day. Heck, that's 1/6th of my entire yearly allotment! For one day I would probably just stay *gasp* offsite using Priceline. But ... I guess that if Deb is happy with her reservation then I am happy for her. Enjoy the Fifth Dimension and the Crystal Palace :woohoo:.
