Hosting Family Events.

This Thanksgiving I am hosting my first Holiday/event at our house. We have invited DH's family to come over.

I am kind of nervous about cooking this big meal for everyone! I do get along well with MIL and I am sure she will be a big help.

So what was the first family event you hosted? Were you nervous? Did it all go as planned or were there some things that just went wrong?

Thanksgiving was my first big one too. I was not really nervous but kind of edgey about it coming out rght. I found the more I can do ahead of time, the better. Plus, everyone usually brings a dish or two.

I think it was Thanksgiving, Jenn Lynn, but as that was 31 years ago, I may be wrong, LOL. I think it went well. Enjoy, all will go fine, and if a few things don't, you guys will laugh about them for years to come.

Don't worry. I've hosted lots of them. I've never done anything fancy though. I wish I had a table big enough, but I don't. It wouldn't fit in my house if I did. lol
Something always goes wrong, laugh it off and work around it.
I make sure I have plenty of food, plenty of drinks and chocolate helps.
We have to bring in chairs and no one minds.

Just have fun, don't get too stressed and get as much done ahead of time as possible. Don't forget to sleep.

For us it was technically Thanksgiving last year when our place was big enought to hold everyone who was coming. However before that, my dad always did the hosting but I always did all the work at his house. Don't worry about it, it can be tons of fun to do!

I'm the family hostess, and my mom came a day ahead and helped me with the first one. There's a lot you can do ahead of time - like cut up celery, onions & parsley for the dressing the day before. We cheat and buy the pies! And everyone is assigned a dish to bring.
