Hosting a Party in a Grand Villa?

Thinking about hosting my wife's 40th in a Grand Villa at At The Grand Californian. Has anyone done this? can it be done? Is it even allowed?? I know the villa only sleeps twelve and I'm sure we wouldnt have any more than six stay the night. But can you host 20-30 people for an evening??
Any comments are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm sure the people in the villa below you will just love to hear 60 feet tromping around above them. Where will all these 30 people sit? You only have seats for about twelve. They won't all fit on the balcony.

Personally, I would think it would be rude towards the other members.

Thanks Deb & Bill for the comments. I wouldnt host a "Dance" Party. I was thinking about a quiet cocktail and appetizer party. No loud music or "Club" atmosphere as you might be envsioning. Its for a 40th not 21st. ;-)

However your comments are just what I'm looking for. I want opinions and I value them all.

I don't know if it's allowed, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I wouldn't have a party going till all hours of the night, but I know I personally would love it!

I think that's a lovely idea. As long as nobody's "tromping" around I don't think it's a huge deal. My thought is, almost no different then having a really big family get together when we go to Disney (y'know a family reunion). But then again like Deb&Bill said there might not be enough space for that many people.

I think that's a great idea! I can't see why you couldn't host a small party but remember you can ONLY have the max of 12 people actually sleeping over night (or officially on the list ). I have had a few people stop by for an evening visit during our stays in the grand villa along with our official 8 listed guests without problems. Maybe parking might become an issue but I think I've preached endlessly on this topic on other threads so once you figure that out it should be fine. We have played poker & hooked up karaoke to THEIR speakers (was worried it might be too loud but it wasn't ) for a fun filled night and had NO complaints so far! I'm thinking of hosting a Thanksgiving dinner there in a few years so I'll be curious to see how this turns out for you! Good luck and have a great time!

I think the resort would not allow you to entertain that many people in the unit due to fire codes.

Also, parking would be an issue (maybe they could park over in the Disneyland lot and hoof it?). And, of course, they could not use the pools...

I believe they do have a policy in place since many corporations purchased DVC points at GCV when they first became available.

Just curious does GC have Private Dining options like WDW resorts?
I know with the deluxe resorts at WDW you can set up private dining in your room/balcony/choice of locations at the resort. I wonder if GC has something similar.

We did something similar this past February for our 40th Anniversary. We had 20+ family members join us for our celebration and provided the accomodations; 1 grand villa, 1 2 bedroom, and 2 studios. Every evening we would end our day by meeting in the grand villa to share stories and make plans for the next day.

It was a blast and we plan to do something similar every 5 years.

Several years ago in an OKW 1-Bdrm for Thanksgiving, we had four people for the night and 8 people over for dinner. Got parking passes for three additional vehicles. DW cooked the turkey and dressing in the resort and the visitors brought the sides and dessert.

You will certainly be able to host an event in your GV - it is frequently done and with Disney's blessing. They would be happy to assist with any needed catering too.

We have done this twice on Thanksgiving at OKW and at BWV, except I did all the cooking myself, lol.

Problem with GCV is that there is no parking pass. To exit the parking lot either show your room key to the parking lot attendant or use it to operate the gate at the automated parking lot exit.

California has different rules/laws as space is at a premium there. If they do allow 30 guests, they will most likely have to park in the general Disneyland Parking Garage.

Seems to me years ago I read here that the founder of this website did a very similiar thing at BWVs.

We always have a large family group every three years and we get a grand villa as a gathering place. We have had birthday parties, wine parties and you name it and it works beautifully. Our group is large 38 people this year in various villas at the BW. We never have parties late at night but normally early evening and break up after the fireworks at Epcot. The rookm is large and we don't usually sit around but mull around with cocktails and finger foods. It's a perfect setting.

From what I understand these would not be resort guests staying at other villas, studios etc as described above. The idea is lovely, my only concern would be parking for an additional 15-20 people, taking the spaces of people actually booked at the resort.

The most we've ever had at a family reunion was 16, but we had a grand villa and a 2br, and some arrived & departed at different times, but all were resort guests.

I think this would work out fine. The hotels are public places, and people tour and dine there all the time.

I had a 4 course dinner for my sister's 25th anniversary in AKL GV. I called and asked for additional tableware. They were most accomodating. It was lovely. I am sure you will have no problem!! Enjoy.
