Hostess snack cakes

My mom's friend was addicted to Hostess Sno-Balls and every time my mother and her friend would go to the supermarket Mom's friend would buy three boxes of Sno-Balls because she just loved them. And my mom would always buy the Hostess Cupcakes and Ding Dongs and Twinkies for herself. Today I love Hostess Ding Dongs and my father loves the Hostess Donettes too and I always get the vanilla Zingers with no coconut on top. I had always seen Hostess Suzy-Q's but I have never tried them. Are Suzy-Q's any good and do they taste like the Cupcakes and would they be worth buying?

When it was Hostess the production company, all of them. Favorite was SuzieQ.

Now, I've tried a cupcake and HoHo now and then, they are terrible now. The "bottom of the barrel" snack cakes are far better than anything with the Hostess name now.

My favorite was always King Dons. But, I don't think they make them any more. I think now they are called Ding Dongs or Ring Dings? Something like that.

They're actually all the same thing. Hostess made Ding Dongs, but Drakes made Ring Dings. In some markets, Hostess changed the name so it wouldn't sound so similar. King Don was one of these names, as was Big Wheels. Through a series of merrgers and divestitures they were sometimes owned by the same company, though I think they are seperate currently, but only the Ding Dong name is used by Hostess now I believe.

I can’t figure out what Hostess is doing with the Dolly Madison brand. I get selling Zingers under that brand, but I’m trying to figure out this.

Back when transfats were allowed, I LOVED Hostess cupcakes, Ring Dings, suzie Q's, Ho-Hos.

Now they all taste awful and are tiny.

Yeah, I don't know. Those look like Ding Dongs to me? Maybe the recipe is different? Did dolly ever have those? I really don't know.

Speaking of Zingers, the red ones with the coconut are one of my favorites!

Some of the current Zingers aren’t anything like pre Hostess Dolly Madison. They had a flat icing on top, then the looped white icing, kind of like how Hostess Cupcakes are topped.

It's all so complicated, ain't it? 🙂

Throw in Little Debbie and Drakes. I suppose any patent would have expired a long time ago.

Interstate/Hostess has owned several of these brands at one time or another,

I was going to say Funny Bones, until I remembered they are Drakes. Hostess would have to be ring dings!

Holy Moly I loved all the products - especially the cupcakes, where I HAD to remove the frosting and eat it separate - LOVED IT! 🥰
ah.... I'm 50 and if I happen to have a snack cake cupcake (not brand dependent) I would still do this :rolleyes1

I also still eat around the edge of a poptart first and twist my Oreos apart, eat the one cookie, then combine the cookie and frosting with another cookie and frosting. :teeth:

Oh, and that would be double stuffs, so I build my own quadrupedal stuffs :teeth::teeth:

So funny!!
I’m 51 and I most absolutely would still do this too, along with splitting my Susie Qs in half so I can have 2 cakes instead of 1

My big thing with Hostess cupcakes was to just peel off the icing and eat that separately. I can do that with Zingers that have icing too.

I also loved your share, Mr. Rodgers. Oreos are way too chewy for me now but I sure loved them when I was younger. Absutely extra "Stuff" makes a tasty difference.

Slo, that definitely sounds chocolatey good to me. Frosting often times can be the best part of a dessert :)

My favorite is the coffee cake but I don't think they were around years ago. My favorite growing up was the chocolate cupcake with the white squibble on top. Funny thing is, I hate twinkees due to the filling but loved the chocolate ones with the filling???? As those in Sacramento can probably attest, we had a Hostess factory here by the freeway and the smell was so good going by there. The kids all use to go on field trips there and bring home a small freshly baked loaf. I was one of the parents that went next door to their outlet to buy the 10 for $1 for lunches.
