Geez....it's been so long since DH & I have been invited to someone's home, I don't know what to bring as a hostess gift. Some old friends are having a parent "reunion" from our kids elementary school friends (we were the parents who ran the PTA, Scouts, Little League). I will bring an appetizer, but I should bring something for them. I don't want to bring chocolate or wine. (I don't know their dietary or drinking habits - we're all getting older!) I was think of a Rosemary plant - they look pretty this time of year, and can actually be used for the herb.

Any suggestions?

That is a good idea. You could also give something Christmasy. Like a decoration or something like that.

Some beautiful holiday napkins and dessert plates and cups. I didnt use them that night but I did another day. She just stacked them and put a bow. I loved it!!!

I think a rosemary plant is a great idea! Maybe try to find some of that small metallic garland to put on it. You know...the stuff that is a single stand with little doodads hanging off...looks like it's made of tinfoil.

Put the appitizer on a nice holiday plate and leave the plate behind.

End of Christmas season last year, I bought some Hallmark snack plates from Kohls. This year, I took each plate, filled it with candy, gingerbread cookies, and an ornament, wrapped it with clear cello, put a bow on it and had an instant gift. Quick, easy, pretty, and cheap.

I agree about taking a nice Christmas plate or bowl and fill it with goodies. Cookies, brownies, candies..... wrap it all up and hand it over to 'em.

Or maybe get a new board game that everyone can play that night and just let them keep it.

I would LOVE it if someone brought me a rosemary plant for a hostess gift!!!
I grow herbs in my sunroom but can always use more. Rosemary is such a great gift and it IS for 'remembering.' Maybe print something off the internet about the uses for rosemary and tie a ribbon around it. I saw a wonderful looking kosher salt/rosemary/horseradish rub for a standing rib roast just yesterday that I'm planning to use Christmas day.
