So DH was diagnoised in April with MS he was in the hospital for a wwek has had 3 MRIs since then (last one in June) and we are STILL getting bills from the hospital! What is the point of paying an arm and a leg every month for insurance! We have gotten so many bills it seems every other week we get another 100 here 50 there 600 last month and today a new 500 AHHHHHH - Now DH is afraid to get another MRI because of the cost!

You need to know exactly what kind of coverages, out of pocket and annual out of pocket limits you have. Contact your benefit administrator who can help you understand exactly what to expect from your insurance. Then, review all your bills and if there is an error contact the hospital billing office to get straight.

Good luck:hug:

Since this is not an illness that is going to "go away", you should find out what your lifetime "cap" is for him with your health insurer as you may need to plan accordingly for the future if it's only in the one million dollar range.. You would be surprised how quickly you can reach that cap..

Sorry to hear this news.. :(

Thanks - it has just been soo frustruating - when we think we are getting a handle on things something else comes up!

Go over the bills with a fine tooth comb. Mistakes are made ALL the time. Call your insurance and find out exactly what they cover. I do not pay ANY hospital bill or Dr bill until I find out exactly what was not covered and why.

I recently had an MRI done, looked on the website to make sure I could go there, called and was told did not need a referral, had other xrays done there, and lo and behold a bill comes from the hospital telling them I owe for the whole MRI (I nearly fainted), I called the insurance company and they looked at it and was like oh I dont know how that happen, you can go there for services. So now they are reprocessing the claim.

I also worked for a hospital in accounting, and I saw many billing errors made from their end too.

GL and I am sorry to hear about your DH's health issues:hug:

My mother had a procedure done on her heart a few weeks ago. It was covered fully by Medicare and her supplemental insurance. Why send a statement to a 91 year-old heart patient that shows the bill of $56,000 for an outpatient procedure? She owes nothing (I had to point that out to her.) Even if she had a co-pay, it wouldn't be over $100, which she can handle.

(I'm sure the hospital will get paid less than half what they bill.)
