Just wondered if someone could answer a few question about horseback riding at Fort Wilderness if they knew:

How much does it cost?
Rough idea of ride times?
How long does it last?
How do I book?

Any advice for two people that haven't ridden horses since they were kids!

Thanks in advance.

as for inexperienced riders - these horses are almost animatronic.....they are very docile and well behaved and know where they're supposed to go....you don't have to have any experience at all to ride ...

i should add that we've done it twice and enjoyed it both times...i should also add that in the summer it's hotter than hades - you have to wear long trousers and closed shoes.....you will die of the heat....but still it's fun :)

When I did the ride in May it was $46. The ride was 45 minutes long.

The ride times were:
8.30
10.00
11.30
1.30
2.30 (I think)

I booked in advance and was the only person on my ride! Booked by calling the number on the WDW website.

I think everyone else has answered your specific questions.

We did this a few years ago and we are very inexperienced but it was good fun although it didn't seem to last that long.

A nice thing to do though away from the parks

Tammy

We did this in May and loved it :thumbsup2

I don't ride but that really wasn't a problem, the CMs will select a horse for you based on your size and experience and the horses know exactly what they are doing

If you are travelling at a hot time of year I would suggest doing a morning ride as I can imagine it gets a little uncomfortable in the summer heat

Enjoy!

Sorry to Hijack your thread a bit but i have a question.

A previous poster said that the horses were very dosile/knew where to go etc. Does this mean that an experienced rider would not enjoy it as much?

I've got 10 years riding experience under my belt and I'm wondering if i would feel as though my riding would be almost 'dumbed-down' in a way.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help :)

Never ndid it, but i am taking my DD15 prob next weekend who has been riding for 10 years to horseworldstables for an apparently a ride that is only suitable for those with advanced riding experience, its about 1hr 15 mins and is approx $73+ tax

Thanks for your replies everyone!

What did you all wear for it?

Shorts, T-Shirts and Trainers

I had horses from the age 11 till a couple of years ago when I lost one to old age and one to colic.

I really enjoyed it - maybe not so much for the actually riding however I really enjoyed talking to my guides. I found it so relaxing!

i started riding as soon as i could walk and rode competitively for many years...

this is a trail ride, not an equestrian event....it's very fun for what it is, a nice relaxing trail ride (on a western saddle, not english)...

i love horses....i love disney world.....put the two together and i'm in heaven....dumbed-down or otherwise...

At WDW it's all at a very relaxed pace and you really don't "ride the horses" as much as sit on them while they walk through the woods, think chair with moving legs. It's still a nice experience but if you'd rather have an experience that requires you to be an interactive part of the experience you may prefer Horse World on Poinciana boulevard. It's about 15 miles from Disney , south of 192 and it's about a 20 minute drive. From Downtown Disney/crossroads area you'd take 535 south to Poinciana BVD ( corner where the huge super walmart is the Poinciana bvd South for about 12-15 miles (crossing 192 and later crossing 17/92 as reference points in case you think you're lost LOL)

If you're into the "wild outdoors" a good double or triple up while you're in that area is continue south on Poinciana bvd another 5-7 miles or so you come to an intersection with Pleasant Hill road. If you go straight and continue on SouthPort road another 4-5 miles you will come to Boggy Creek airboat rides http://www.bcairboats.com or if you turn right you're just a couple of miles from Disney's wilderness preserve (nature conservancy) Directions are on the web page. I think the nature preserve has limit days.

Either option are pretty cool and a great way to see the true Florida natural flora and fauna.

I've been to horseworld in the past... when I was muh younger and found it good.
Thinking of booking an advanced trail ride, since, as much as I'd love to ride a "disney horse" I think I'd like to have a bit of a canter whilst I'm out!

Booked DD an Advanced trail ride for this morning at Horseworld 9:45. she has been riding for 10 years, and she was the only one on the ride, she really enjoyed it, was away for about 1hr 20mins approx, she enjoyed it, said they walked trotted and cantered througout the trail, not cheap at $73 + tax but she really enjoyed it, and the horse did not IMHO seem dosile maybe the opposite
