We are beginning to plan a June 06 vacation and want to try something new. Our youngest DD is old enough to do the horseback riding and both DD love horseback riding in Ohio. What is the trail ride like? Would you do it again? 8 months to go and I can't wait!

i never went but my kids went at least once a trip for years, lots of time more than once as we had a horse "fanatic"( she still is but has her own now). i know cms go with you, the horses are docile( maybe too docile). not sure if it is 1/2 an hr or 1 hr but they loved it.

It is EXTREMELY docile. The ride is at a walking pace along a wooded trail and is about 45 min. long. There are 2 CMs - one in front, one bringing up the rear. Great ride for a beginner, though!!!

HTH!!! :teeth:

I tried this ride when I was much younger (there's only one thing that I love more than Disney - and that's a horse.) I think I was already taking lessons at that point and I decided that I would not spend the money on that ride again.
It's great for someone that doesn't ride much at home... but for someone that takes lessons, has their own horse, or even rides a friends horse on a regular basis - this ride may be a little too docile (docile sounds nicer than boring.)

I agree with the above posters. Dh, Mom and I did this a few years back. The animals are training to follow the horse in front. It is just a slow lazy walk through FT. Wilderness. I am not a horseback rider at all so it was fun for us.

Fun for a horse crazy kid who never gets the chance to ride at home. but if your DD's are taking lessons somewhere, or get to ride at home at all, this ride will be a bit "under-whelming" for them. It's nose to tail walking through the woods.

Fun part is...the CMs who ride along with you are extremely well informed on all things Ft. Wilderness and on the Disney grounds, as well as much of the wildlife and vegitation so it's fun to ask them questions about "un-discovered" Disney as you ride along. We did it 2 years ago November and would definitely do it again!

You can do the ride if you are staying at any of the resorts, but I agree, kinda boring, and can be very hot in June. I think there are much better places to do this.

Try the Grand Cypress Equestrian Center or Horse World for more advanced trail riding. :)

Thanks for the input. Both DD like to go horseback riding but we don't go often and the trail rides are similar to your descriptions of Disney's. What is the scenery like ? Do you get any special views or they simply a walk through the woods?

This was a few years ago, but what I recall was mostly woods, a few open patches - nothing I would call special.

They've set up a few "old west" items throughout the ride, along the trail - busted up wagon, some boots nailed to a tree... stuff like that.

On my ride, I spotted a couple of deer in the woods. It was nice.

Very peaceful.
