My 9 y/o GD loves horses. She has two and is a pretty good rider. One of her horses is fairly small and is more of a pet, but the other (her favorite) is a very large quarter horse. She would not be interested in a small horse. Would they be willing to give her a bigger horse despite her small size? She would be very disgusted with a little slow plodding pony. Also can you ride the horses at FW on your own or do you have to go on the trail ride with everyone else? She'd probably be bored if all you could do is ride in a straight line looking at the rear end of another horse, but would love it if we could go off exploring on our own on horseback.

You have to follow a trail. These are usually older horses and very well mannerd. So if you are looking for a exploration this is not the place.

I agree that anyone who owns or rides a horse on a regular bases would be board with the single file-straight line, flat, slow walk through the woods.

yup....this is definitely not the place for an experienced rider..

you should check out the riding stables at the hyatt grand cypress....they have both english and western riding...the western stables have trail rides and i think they might include advanced trail rides...

I rode w/ my mom (we're both experienced riders) in may 05 at grand cypress. it was walk/trot using western saddles (not sure if you can request english saddles - personally, i think western saddles are better on trail). we went out w/ our guide & a couple of other ladies. It was nice...mostly shaded.

no, the english stables are on a completely different part of the property...
the western stables are just for trail rides..
the english stables are a very elaborate english riding school...one of the best in the United States......i
