Anyone done this? I've always wanted too but couldn't justify the price back when I had horses at home to ride for free. Now I'm horseless and it feels like its been to long since my last ride so I'm considering it for my September trip. Are the trails nice? Do experienced riders get very bored? Or is it still a worthwhile experience being that you get to ride at Disney?

Do they still have horseback riding at Disney. I tried the link and it didn't work and I searched for it but couldn't find any current info. I posted on fb too but no one seemed to know.

Just looked at the Fort Wilderness site and it has trail rides for $46/45 min. I have never been as my GD was too young on our previous visits and as she is used to riding horses, being pulled around on a pony did not interest her. This year she is 9 so thinking about it. I too have a horse at home, but love riding else where. My GD has been able to ride with me in the Smokey Mountains several times and while I always seem to get the oldest horse in the group, (I am usually the smallest) it was still fun and a little exciting as one poor old thing took a stumble going down hill. Luckily I was experienced and didn't beat the group, and my horse, to the bottom.

Go and have fun riding at Disney. It's not everyday you have the chance to do it.

I did it about 20 or so years ago as a teenager (of course it probably cost $9.00 per person then!) I had never been on an actual trail ride and I did enjoy it. It was a very sloooow canter from what I remember. Beautiful horses and scenery though. Have fun if you go!

We have reservations in a few weeks, so it still happens. It should be fun.

We have done this twice, as my daughter loves horses. VERY tame. I think you could fall asleep on the horses & still be totally safe. They stay right in line. Because I have experience, they gave me one w a little more "pep". But it really was just that I had to keep him from eating all the greenery along the way. Lol. That being said, it is a nice relaxing ride. We have seen deer each time. It was nice to feel like we escaped the hustle and bustle of the parks, and just enjoy the forest. We will do again when my youngest gets old enough.

We signed our daughter up for a trail ride year before last, and she had a great time. She's an experienced rider, rides English saddle, but she still enjoyed herself. It's a very sedate ride, the horses are basically sleep walking because they're done the trail so many times lol, and you're riding pretty much single-file behind the leader. Even so, she enjoyed it as I said. Was it worth the $$$? To see the look on her face when we surprised her with the trail ride, most definitely :).

Is there a weight limit for the horseback riding? Thanks:)
I think it was 250 lbs. and they do weigh you at checkin.

I did this a month ago since I hadn't been in many years. Yes, it is single-file walking and pretty tame, but my horse needed constant encouragement to keep up with the rest, so it isn't that get on the horse and do nothing. I used my DVC discount which knocked the price down about $5.

HTH!!! :goodvibes

How would one get to the stables at FW? Is there a place to park or do we have to take the busses to get there?

We drove there, but the corral is near the bus stops. If you are taking the boat from Wilderness Lodge or the Contempory, it is in the "back" of FW and you can take the internal bus to the front.
My girls LOVED the experience. We went at the first time slot at the end of August and they were the only 2 on the ride. Very personalized service with the 2 trail guides.

My daughter and I went for the first time Dec 7th. We had a great time. We stayed at SSR so we took a bus to downtown disney and then took a bus to Fort Wilderness which drops you off right near the stables and check in building. I would allow 45 min to a hour to arrive on time( bus drivers were changing shifts). Overall we would do it again:)

Wanted to do this with my son in Feb. He is 8 will be 9 in May and is 58 inches tall. Called DW and they said unfortunately they are very strict on sticking to the age requirement . Just a heads up if your child is under 9 and is wanting to ride.
