While trying to comprise a list of things we still haven't done at WDW even after 10 visits, we realized we've never ridden the horse drawn trolley at Magic Kingdom. I don't even know where it is located but I've seen them thoughout the MK. Can anyone give me more info? Where would we board? how long is the tour? Is it a guided tour? How often does it depart? Thanks for any info offered...- Nancy

Horse drawn carriage runs up and down Main Street, we've seen them only in the morning before it gets hot. Pick up point by Train Station and Castle. Loop up Main Street is like a dog bone and end circles are the pick up and drop point. Fun ride, as are the double decker bus, both are free, just get in line.

We stumbled on this one EE morning. It was sitting empty at the beginning of Main St. We hopped on and I filmed the ride up the street to the castle, catching the music that adds atmosphere to the scene. Watching that tape never fails to put us 'in the moment'.

You can find the horse drawn trolley in the MK everyday, generally before noon. It is located directly across the street from the RR station steps...people board it there and you won't have any trouble finding it after about 9:30am...I've never checked the exact time, but I think they aren't out right at park opening because they wait until the "main push" of people at opening has dispersed because the trolley goes right smack dab down the center of main street and lets you out across from the castle steps. It is a one-way ride to the castle...and a one-way ride back to the train station. Sometimes it takes on additional special passengers with lovely voices :)

Our children have loved this ride from the time they were little...and they still do as teens! At Christmas they decorate the trolleys...and the horses! Somewhere I have a pic of the horse's rear end sporting a large red bow on his specially "bunned up" tail!...hmmm, they could call that style a "ponytail"... :rotfl: :rotfl:

The trolley only runs in the morning. The aninal rights people gave Disney such a hard time they cut the hours years ago. They said it was too hot, too hard, blah blah blah for horses.

Hi!

During our trip this past December I took the family for a horse drawn carriage ride at WL - it was great and the boys still talk about it.

I wonder if it's those same animal rights people who persuaded Disney not to let anyone pet the horses anymore. We have pictures from 1989 of DD petting the trolley horses. Yet, a couple months ago, when a little girl aproached, the driver said "Please don't touch the horse". What a grump! Or maybe it's not Disney's policy, just that particular driver.

WDW does not want to take the chance of anyone getting bit. It's A Lawsuit World afterall . . . . .

The animal rights people don't care about the person only the animal. We raise and show Percheron draft horses. Disney is just being careful. People without any animal experience can do some really stupid things around horses. If you keep them away the chances of something happening are greatly reduced.

Hmmm...

...it may very well depend on the horse...or the driver's perception of the experience level of the people approaching/petting the horse.

Over Christmas people were allowed to pet the horse(s) when I rode...but I HAVE witnessed some very careless/stupid behavior on the part of guests concerning the horses in the past...mostly with fathers lifting up their children, disregarding whether or not their young child was screaming/agressive in the situation...not paying any attention to the horse actually, just to their wife taking a picture or trying to "make" a timid child "pet the horsie"...sigh...

My personal favorite has been people pushing strollers under the horse so the kid can pet the horses belly. EECK We see it all when we are showing.

Thanks everyone. We will definitely be giving this one a try. - Nancy
