For your friends, even though they weren't a hospice family, many hospices (especially non-profit ones) will provide grief counseling/support to families that need it. If you think your friends need it, please let them know to contact a hospice in their area.

Thank you Diana. I do think they will need counseling, and I will recommend they consider this as an option for that. This week is particularly tough now, as the suddenness is wearing off and the realization of the permanence is settling in. I am trying to decide how much calling is too much and annoying vs. too little and distant. I guess it is hard to do this "right" so I will just extend myself to them as much as I can and let them direct me as to when they need their time alone.
