Horrible stay at POP

We are checking in to Pop the day after tomorrow, and with all resorts at 100% capacity I am thinking we are stuck there. SO...

I am going to go with the explanation that SOMEHOW there was a miscommunication between the front desk and the housekeepers. The housekeepers must not have realized the people were checking out - they made the bed but didn't change the linens. I actually came up with that last night after I first read the post.

I feel better now. Hands over ears saying "LA-LA-LA!" I can't hear you telling me that's not what happened!! :bitelip:

I am one of those who won't let DS put his face on the bedspread - I am pretty phobic about hotel beds. Perhaps that is a good thing for us! ICK!

What ? Just his face? Heck, I don't let anyone go near the beds until I remove the bedspreads!

Stayed at POP Century on 1/7/05 for just 1 night (thankfully), and am sorry to say it was a horrible experience. I generally don't complain about a hotel as long as the room is somewhat clean and there is a bed, I am happy.

Upon coming home at 1am from PI/Downtown Disney, my gf went to jump in bed and when pulling back the sheets, stuck her hand in a rather large, crusty, whiteish/yellow stain, on the sheets as well as part of the blanket. I can understand not changing sheets everyday when the same guest occupies the room, however not changing sheets between guests is totally unacceptable. It was obvious these sheets had not been changed, and what is even more shocking is how housekeeping could miss this large, 4-6" in diameter, "spot"!

We immediatly called the front desk and asked for new linens and a manager ASAP, while explaining the problem. I was very calm and polite on the phone, after all not front desks fault. They assured me sopmeone would be right up. 1:45am: still no sheets, phone call, or anything else. Called desk again and was put on hold for 5 minutes. CM came back and said linens were on the way, however managers were only sent to the rooms for "Serious" problems at night. Well, somebody elses body fluids in MY bed, is a serious problem.

Finally we got an unsypathetic call from the front desk manager, offering us a 1pm checkout and 25% off. The gesture was nice, however a fast acting manager would have not made us wait around until 2:30AM for a useable bed.

Other downsides to POP, which WERE expected, as it is a Value resort:
A) Horrible bus service - large crowds, inconsistant pick ups, no organization with regards to lines of people waiting, etc.
B) Loud neighbors all nite - again this wasn't a bid deal because it certainly is NOT Disney's fault. Value resort = kids/families = noise.

On a better note, we stayed at CSR the next nite, and everything was perfect. This trip was basically for me and my gf to decide whether it would be worth getting annual passes to make for a couple inexpensive weekend getaways over the year. POP has made an otherwise easy decision more difficult.

Jim

Yep, that about sums it up for me, never been, now definately not going. Not that it couldn't happen anywhere.

That is truly a revolting story. It would have been a nightmare anywhere, but I expect better from Disney. Especially when it comes to handling a complaint like that. They dropped the ball not once, but several times with the bad handling of the problem once reported.

Of course, we didn't like PC when we were there either. (Beds VERY uncomfortable, noise coming in from outside and other rooms, the loud flush from all the turbo toilets in the building, winding walkways that lead nowhere...)

But those are just minor complaints. Yours is a MAJOR one! You can bet I'll be checking beds before getting inside from now on.

EWWWWW!!! :earseek: Sorry to hear about that unfortunate discovery. I kind of have to agree that I probably would have asked to have been moved. YUCK! :p I am glad you at least were compensated for your problem. And you are right... that is DEFINITELY NOT up to Disney Standards. :sad2: Hopefully, it was a one time occurance, and you can be sure that the proper people will hear about it. Still....ewwww! :crazy2:

I am glad that your trip got better when staying at CSR. I sincerely hope that didn't turn you off on Disney altogether, and that you and your GF decide that you do want to return.

Sorry to here about the "spot". Thank God that hasn't happened to us. My DW and I stayed at Pop back in Aug/Sep time for a short 2 night stay and saw the same issues with bussing and cm attitudes. If Pop is supposed to be "one of the largest hotels" in the world as far as rooms - Disney needs to get on the ball with the bussing system. We had to stand in line at MK almost 2 hours to finally get on the bus to get back to Pop. If you have a place like that with that many guest staying there the transportation needs to be double - or something. It just doesn't make sense cause everywhere else we've stayed we've never see this kind of issue.

Oh gross. I'll sure be looking around carefully before I get into bed Sunday night. Someone had mentioned once on these boards, that once the rooms are cleaned the maids can go home. Does that mean they are paid per room? If so, maybe that's not the way to pay them, and they would be able to slow down some. I've never run into that, so hopefully, it was an isolated incident.
Oh, yuck!

Sorry to hear about your experience at POP. I think that would upset anyone, rightfully so. I just wanted to chime in and say how much we loved POP!! :D We were there in September & even stayed thru Hurricane Jeanne. We never heard a peep from our neighbors, slept soundly every night & never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus.

I think, unfortunately, that your situation could happen at any hotel at WDW or anywhere else in the country.

We will be back to POP Century in less than 10 days & can't wait!! :D I think if there were any problems with the lines for busses, it would have to be the fault of those waiting in the lines, not the fault of the resort. Unless things have changed since September, there was a cue set up for each & every bus stop for guests to wait in. We have stayed at several Deluxes & Values & must say that POP had about the best bus transportation around. I love the Wilderness Lodge for its theming, but waiting 40 minutes for busses gets old quick.

POP is in a great location & has many great things to offer. :D

Oh, yuck!

Nope, Mousekeeping is paid by the hour, just like the other CM's at WDW. So, that wasn't what led to the "discovery"..... still....ick :scared:

We've stayed at POP twice, once for 4 nights the other for 5. Our first stay was unremarkable and quite nice other than my adjustment to a value resort! No noise, no housekeeping issues. Because of that stay and an exceptionally good rate, I stayed again in December for Mousefest. Unfortunately this stay had some problems.

The room had a fabulous view, was quiet and an end room. CM's at check-in were terrific as well as whenever I needed to call - which was almost immediately after arriving in the room.

It was pretty bad - so bad that I wrote guest services a couple of weeks ago - have not heard back other than an automated reply. I made sure to compliment the CM's and mention all the positives about the stay as well as the issues of concern.

I won't go into the disgusting details - but the room was filthy. Bathroom esp. At first I tried to clean it up myself but when I saw the extent all I could think was what I could not see and that grossed me out even more. After several minutes I called and asked to change resorts. Within minutes a housekeeping manager came up and asked if he could have the room cleaned while I was at MVMCP, to which I agreed. He also arranged for new bedspreads and a special linen wash each day with fresh linens and new never before used blankets (although these were gone the next day since they changed everything each day).

The room was better, but I was still concerned about long standing bacteria etc. Never-the-less we stayed and the rest of the trip was fine. The manager never called back to check that all was well - the issue was serious and truly did call for a check in the next day by the manager.

I do like POP and would stay there again - esp if money was an issue. I think there are lots of great things about POP and I really did enjoy the stay, other than the room issues. Food court is okay and fine for a meal now and then, but it's not great.

The larger WDW has become, the more issues have cropped often in any resort. On this board you can find legitimate complaints about every resort (as well as some silly ones). No place is perfect, but Disney standards have slipped since my stays in the early 80's thru the mid 90's.

Still, we return because it continues to offer that magic and enchantment that's not to be found elsewhere. Even if it's not quite as magical as days gone by...it is still wonderful!

edit: Our beds have been fine and comfy - both times in the 50's.

Just wondering why OP didn't call Mousekeeping directly instead of wasting time dealing with Front Desk personnel who just contact Mousekeeping anyway. We needed extra coat hangers when we stayed at Pop in October and less than 5 minutes after calling the Mousekeeping number on my phone, someone was there with a stack of hangers for me, no problem. Dirty linens are disgusting but I think you would have had a much quicker response had you called them directly.

The mattresses in the 50's room we were in during our July stay were perfect. During our October stay in the 70's section, it was unbearable.

Buses rocked, except for returning from MK. Then they were really, really poor.

All in all, I really enjoy POP.

Well...
Wrote a letter to guest services Monday (via email). Have yet to hear anything, and honestly don't know if I expect to. For being a company that is supposedly centered around there excellent customer service and cleanliness of parks/resorts, I don't really know what to say.
With Universal and their three 4 or 5-star resorts 10 minutes away, you would think they would try a bit harder to at least respond to issues. I'm sure will try it again sometime, but after this it will be awhile.

Jim

Due to the number of letters that Disney recieves every day, it sometimes will take awhile before you recieve a response. The letter has to get read, forwarded to the appropriate people, read again, and then researched.

I'm sorry but loud neighbors can happen at any of the resorts. Loud neighbors=rude, inconsiderate people. Has nothing to do with value resorts. In Nov we stayed CR wings, we had kids over us jumping around maybe on the bed beginning at 6:30am. Not to mention the teenagers that kept racing up and down the halls(thought to myself I'm paying $165.00 a night for this?). We stayed Poly Conceirge in Sept and the neighbors kept banging the dresser drawers opened and closed that was every morning beginning at 7am($330 a night). Not the most pleasant ways to get woken up. The one thing I can say about staying at Pop or the other value resorts is it cost 1/3 the price of staying at the Deluxes, so sometimes you live with a little noise.

Sorry about what you found on the bed I would have insisted on another room. There is no excuse for that.

Shirley

Sorry this happened to you--sounds icky!

Re: length of time to get linens--from someone who has worked housekeeping (albeit down in Vero)---they only have a few staff working at night on the graveyard shift. As soon as front desk hears from you, they radio the CM who then has to go to where the linens are and get your linens and then take them to you. With such a sprawled out resort--you could have threatened to call Eisner himself and it would have still taken longer than 10 minutes. However, when you called to check--the front desk had NO BUSINESS being rude--I don't care what time it was in the morning or if they forgot to drink their coffee. They have a radio--they can radio the CM to tell them to hurry up if necessary.

Our family was ill with the flu and DD4 didn't make it to the bathroom in time. It was at least 45 minutes for sheets. This was at POFQ.

Additionally--at least at Vero--they do get a computer printout of all guest rooms that are being vacated that day b/c the cleaning process (at least on paper) is more thorough than daily cleanings for the guests continuing their stay (obviously different at Vero since it is DVC..but the main bldg has regular maid service). Most obviously, the switching out of linens. In the past--on WDW property and at Vero I've witnessed where they have a guy (or girl)--who goes and gets all the linens assembly line fashion after the beds have been all stripped. This had to have been an oversight of somekind and they should have record of who actually cleaned the room that day so they can know exactly who to speak with and possibly reprimand.

On a yucky note--we checked into a hotel once in Orlando that was cleared in the computer as ready for guests and it very much was not ready for guests.

I will still stay at the Value's if that is what is necessary for a trip, but I do very much see the difference in service and attitude between a value and a moderate or deluxe. They know what their clientele is and how much they paid and sadly--I don't think you would have been treated this rudely at one of the pricier properties. Glad to hear your next stay was better.

EEWWWW!! Not too much else to say about that.

Sorry your experience was so bad.,]

Similar thing happened to me at a non-Disney hotel in Maryland (obviously non-Disney if in MD :) ). My daughter was getting ready to go to sleep, pulled back the covers and there were a bunch of hairs on the pillow and in the sheets. Looks like a man probably got a haircut and then went to bed without showering. It was gross. We called the front desk and someone showed up with fresh sheets and comped the room for the night without even looking at the sheets. I called him in to the room, though, to see exactly what I was talking about and he was disgusted.

I think that WDW should have comped the room for something like that, especially since it occurred so late at night.

BaciBecky, my first request had been 50's lakeside, but instead we ended up with 70's lakeside. I'm glad that I ended up in the 70's after your experience.

T&B

I had the same experience at CBR Sept04 I checked the pillows and sheets only to find the one my DD16 was going to sleep on had Blood on the sheets and pillowcase. YES DRIED BLOOD. I immediately called housekeeping and the front desk ( who told me to call housekeeping and hung up on me) I also found a very stickey spot on the rug by my bed. We had 2 adjourning rooms. I asked that this spot be cleaned 3 times. I finally got the sheets and pillows changed when I called housekeeping for the third time that day. I called just prior to leaving for dinner and again when we returned to leave for the park for the evening and agian at 11 am when we were getting ready for bed I told them on the third call I would be more than happy to put the bed sheets and pillows outside the room to help them find them as they said they did not see the Blood on any of the items I removed and placed on the floor by the door.

I wrote to Disney Sept 30th and to this day I have had no response.

Will I go back to Disney Yes but I will check the room and demand at the front desk in front of everyone what I want next time i dont get a response within a reasonable time frame. Yes that will be me making the scene while all you people laugh at me. But I bet you stop laughing when I say the words "Would you sleep on some one elses dries Bloody sheets."

I have since gone back to POP and I had an incredible stay.

I think the CBR trip was just a bad fluke. AS they also didnt have 2 rooms in the same building to start. They suggested I put the kids in one building and my DH and I stay in another. Across the bridge from each other LOL Ya right 2 16 year old girls all alone for 2 weeks at disney. Then put me on the 2nd floor, with me sitting in front of them in my ECV. LOL They then told me in order to get my $$ back for my canceled LUAU tickets during hurricane Jean ( they canceled the show ) I would have to walk up to the Front desk , during the hurricane mind you, after they told us to stay in our rooms, as the busses were not running due to the safety factor. Or I would have to forfeit the @$$. I had reservations for 6 adults.

We had a terrible experience when we stayed at PC in Dec. The bathroom was disgusting. Someone had used the toilet and ( brown ) was all on the outside of the bowl. I called and asked for a manager to come up right away. I only received the housekeeping manager. Everything was cleaned up right away. But on my gosh can you imagine them not cleaning it up in the first place. We were offered 50% off of that nights stay. I have since written an e-mail to disney and sent along the photos I took. Good thing for digital. But haven't heard a word from them other than the response e-mail saying they received my e-mail and would be getting back to me in a few weeks. I guess my next step will be printing the photos up and sending them to the corporate office. Has anyone gotten a response from WDW how long does it usually take. My printer is messed up, so it is going to be embarrasing to go and have photos made of poop all over a toilet.
