Horrible stay at POP

Stayed at POP Century on 1/7/05 for just 1 night (thankfully), and am sorry to say it was a horrible experience. I generally don't complain about a hotel as long as the room is somewhat clean and there is a bed, I am happy.

Upon coming home at 1am from PI/Downtown Disney, my gf went to jump in bed and when pulling back the sheets, stuck her hand in a rather large, crusty, whiteish/yellow stain, on the sheets as well as part of the blanket. I can understand not changing sheets everyday when the same guest occupies the room, however not changing sheets between guests is totally unacceptable. It was obvious these sheets had not been changed, and what is even more shocking is how housekeeping could miss this large, 4-6" in diameter, "spot"!

We immediatly called the front desk and asked for new linens and a manager ASAP, while explaining the problem. I was very calm and polite on the phone, after all not front desks fault. They assured me sopmeone would be right up. 1:45am: still no sheets, phone call, or anything else. Called desk again and was put on hold for 5 minutes. CM came back and said linens were on the way, however managers were only sent to the rooms for "Serious" problems at night. Well, somebody elses body fluids in MY bed, is a serious problem.

Finally we got an unsypathetic call from the front desk manager, offering us a 1pm checkout and 25% off. The gesture was nice, however a fast acting manager would have not made us wait around until 2:30AM for a useable bed.

Other downsides to POP, which WERE expected, as it is a Value resort:
A) Horrible bus service - large crowds, inconsistant pick ups, no organization with regards to lines of people waiting, etc.
B) Loud neighbors all nite - again this wasn't a bid deal because it certainly is NOT Disney's fault. Value resort = kids/families = noise.

On a better note, we stayed at CSR the next nite, and everything was perfect. This trip was basically for me and my gf to decide whether it would be worth getting annual passes to make for a couple inexpensive weekend getaways over the year. POP has made an otherwise easy decision more difficult.

Sorry about that bad visit to POP! I'm glad CSR came through for you.

Like I said, I generally don't complain about hotels, but I felt this was a pretty big problem, and the way it was handled, in our opinion, was NOT up to Disney standards.

Sorry you had a such a bad experience. There's no excuse for dirty linen. Thankfully our room was clean when we stayed there.

Maybe it was the timing for our stay (12/11-21), but we were pleased with the bus service. Except for one exceptionally long wait (40 minutes!), we usually didn't wait more than 10 minutes (most times less than that), and only had to stand one time. We also didn't have any noise on the third floor of the Mickey Phone building. We are looking forward to returning to Pop, BUT if we had encountered problems like you did, we would probably not be returning.

Fresh sheets? Heck no - I'll take a new room, thanks! Who knows what else they didn't clean!

That is really an unacceptable situation. Sorry to hear this.

DD check into her room at Pop last night, Jan 8. Thanksfully, all good news. This is her first trip alone.

Quiet room in 70's bldg. No neighbor problems so far. They are there for a week. Food court not too croweded. Had to stand once on bus to AK, not back.

Going swimming tonight.

herc.

That is pretty bad and sorry to hear about it. I would agree with Tabetha, I think I would have just asked for another room, but who would have thought it would have taken as long as it did to get clean linens, regardless of the time.

I'm one that hates to complain and will basically put up with almost anything, but this is pretty disgusting. I think I would be inclined to write a letter and explain what happened and mail it to the POP management. The mgt. has to take care of a lot of employees and I'm sure they would appreciate hearing about this. When I get good service, I make sure I seek out a manager and tell them.....and unfortunately, if the service is beyond tolerable (which I think your situation is), then I also seek out the manager, mostly by letter.

I'm glad our stay, 10 nights, was without conflict. We loved our stay and will probably stay again at POP. Hope your luck is better next time. :D

heh...

a similar but not as gross (I think) experience has made me check the bedlinens for a fairly to change the linens as the very first thing I do no matter what time it is. Pull back the covers completely to check for hairs and "what not".

Let me take this time pitch my suggestion of stripping the beds when you check out. I have friends who make up the beds...I figure this is WAY too much temptation for an underpaid/overworked maid/CM to just let it go. Strip your beds and your used towels...we all will thank you.

A strongly worded letter is in order.

Yuck! but I guess it could happen anywhere... the housekeeper was not a good one to miss that!

After reading your problem, I'm beginning to think that Disney is not up to the same standards as in previous years. At the beginning of December we stayed at POFQ and while we did not have any problems with the bed linens (thank goodness) however, there were other housekeeping issues that, to me, were not up to Disney standards. Besides problems with the CM when we checked in advising us that they were able to honour my request for a 2nd floor room with a view of the courtyard..only to find out that our room was actually on the first floor with a view of the parking lot...well at least they got our specific building request right...I think the best happened on the day we were checking out - we heard a knock at the door and I answered it to housekeeping asking me if they could clean my room. I advised we were checking out. She didn't even know we were checking out so if we had already checked out, I doubt she would have changed the bed linens. We stayed at the POFQ in 2000 and loved it and decided to stay there again. I know we will NOT be staying there again.

As a former housekeeper (who never cut corners!),
I agree with the other post.
Check your sheets/pillowcases/and under the bed ASAP,
before you go anywhere.
Same for the toilet & shower.
I also go so far as to check where the head of the bed
meets the wall/headboard.
You can't believe how filthy it can be back there,
and all it takes is 15 seconds to run the vacuum hose
along the ledge, if there is one there.
I also strip the beds & pile towels in one place,
not only to keep someone from temptation,
but to also give them a break!
It's one less thing they have to do when they get to the room.

Well, somebody elses body fluids in MY bed, is a serious problem.
 I'd say so. I'll know to double check the sheets before the lights are turned out no matter where I stay from now on.

As a hotel front desk worker (admittedly not a Disney employee), I feel a need to apologize on the behalf of all desk clerks. That behavior is inexcusable. Housekeeping, front desk staff, and management should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm sorry about your experience, although I'm sure it's an isolated (but completely inexcusable) incident.

In regards to your comment about the buses, I fail to understand the last part. Pop Century has queue lines for all of the bus stops. Each stop is clearly marked as to where the bus will be going.

:( My son and I stayed at POP for one night last August and we did not care for it. We stayed in a preferred room (building next to the Hippy Dippy Pool-when facing food court on the right) on the backside of the building and found the resort to be very spread out. We stayed at AS Sports a few years ago in the SURFS UP building ( I think #6) and it did not feel spread out at all. We walked out our room and were at the bus stop or food court in just a couple minutes. Also, the beds at POP were awful. They felt like Flintstone beds. If you push your hand down on the mattress you could feel the springs. Worst night sleep. The only two positive things-bigger, newer TV's and love that Tie Dye Cheesecake. How cool!

I am sorry that this happened to you--how awful--eeewww!!! I don't think I would have been as calm as you were in this situation.

I stayed at POP and and All-Stars & I did like All Stars better--maybe because it didn't feel as spread out???

I do think that you should write someone--yuck. I don't thin 25% off room & late checkout was acceptable. YUK YUK YUK

I am going to take others' advice & check everything asap when we arrive.

ITA. The bus service at Pop was superior to the service at BWI, IMO.

I stayed at Pop last month for MouseFest. I';ve stayed at Music and Sports several times each, so I think I can compare them.

Mostly Pop was fine to me, but I had a few issues.

1) The beds WERE like Flintstone beds; hard as a brick with no give whatsoever.

2) Busses ran at 15 minute intervals as they should, but every one I got on was PACKED TO THE GILLS, in some cases dangerously so. If a bus ever tipped over when it was that full (and it felt like a couple of times we came mighty close!), a lot of people would get seriously hurt.

3) Food at the food court was similar to that at Music and Sports, but the quality and freshness was not nearly as good.

On the plus side, the MouseKeeping CMs gave me extra soaps for the charity drive, and my check-in and check-out CMs were both excellent. My view acros the lake was pretty (I was in the 70s A bldg). Pop's location made all the bus rides much shorter than those I have taken from the All-Star resorts.

All things being equal, I think i like Music better.

While I am sorry you had to expereince that, I have to say POP was great when we went, and we are 2 adults with no kids.

We heard no noise and the bus service was excellent. Best at any resort I've stayed at yet. Never had to stand, they were there every 15 minutes.

Uh, I'm sorry, but that is just DISGUSTING... that is MORE than disgusting!! We had a similar type of story local to us that was described in our newspaper, only it was another type of bodily fluid... that patron was suing the hotel chain (Marriott) Ever since reading that I have always checked the sheets before getting in... This is IT though, from now on I am bringing my own... The treatment you received is almost as bad as the event itself, it's definitely not the Disney we used to know :(
