Horrible Experience at Harmony Barber Shop

I can just email the complaint at my convenience

That's why Customer Service has become the charade that it is. Rather than get the situation resolved while all of the details are fresh and clear, too many wait and the details become less accurate. Not in every case, not in every situation, but as a general rule more credence is given when the complaint is presented quickly and precisely. I handled customer complaints for a large hotel for several years and can state from experience that the resolution is much better when sought at the time of the incident, rather than complaining days or weeks later. Disney has its own way of doing things, so the OP should expect to be contacted. The complaint would have been easily rectified if the OP had gone to Town Hall and filed her complaint. The CMs at Town Hall would have seen the offending haircut and the complaint could have been resolved right then. Yes it would have taken time, but the day was already a bust due to the offending haircut. The OP chose to wait and handle it later, in the future I would advise handling it right then and there. Again, the details would have been fresh and Disney could have questioned the CM in question immediately.

If it is posted on the DIS--it must be correct.

In the past, we have gone to Town Hall to complain per your suggested protocol. We were given a lovely card with an e-mail address to write to.

Just b/c Harmony is in close proximity to Town Hall does not mean that a different result would have occurred.

Oh--and the children's haircuts are priced accordingly to account for all the gimmicks.

I wouldn't agree-DD's haircut was $14- the same that we pay for a haircut at our local salon.

There is a lesson in there for everyone, if you have a truly magical experience and then set out to repeat it - you may be destined for disappointed the 2nd time around.

Ain't that the truth? :thumbsup2

I am sorry your little boy had to go through that...Bless his little heart. :)

I hope he won't be scared to get haircuts in the future. Just in case, why not get him a big scoop of ice cream right after the next one. That way, maybe he will associate it with something good?

Just a thought.

This is a --- "barber shop"---not a salon. Compared to other barber shops--it is priced for the gimmicks and experience. Whether or not a person takes them is up to them. Adult prices include hair spray paint and glitter as well.

I live 90 minutes from Disney..and in this neck of the woods...which ain't so woodsy--there is a premium to get a cut there.

You will pay more for a "do" at salons at the resort--they offer more services including wash/dry/style as well as coloring et cetera, priced accordingly of course.

Actually, that is consistent with the barber shop prices around here - with no gimmicks. Even the cheap quick cut places are about that. I remember thinking what a bargain the cut was the first year - because it included the gimmicks. They were still braiding hair at that time too. Depending on where you live, it may not seem like it is priced for the extras.

Sorry the op had a bad experience.

well I guess we will await the response to the OP from Disney--b/c the advertising/marketing of said establishment is inconsistent with what some are saying about the place.

Why would they market it in such a way, if several on here are saying it shouldn't be expected?

I wasn't saying it shouldn't be expected. I did expect it as I read about the extras. I just thought the price would be higher than a haircut at home (I didn't know the price before we got there). You know, you kind of expect everything to cost more at Disney. :teeth:

I would have been dissapointed had we not gotten the paint and confetti. I will say that some of the employees of the shop are more magical? gimmicky? than others. And I really wish they still did the braiding.

Just received a phone call from a Disney Rep this afternoon. He said that they received multiple complaints regarding the stylist and that she is no longer at the Harmony Barber Shop.

He did offer me $15 dollars in Disney Dollars to refund the haircut and Disney park passes since I left the park immediately after the haircut. I accepted both offers.

I'm very pleased with the way everything turned out.

Thanks for letting us know. I would be very satisfied with that outcome if I were you. And good to know that speaking up paid off for others in not having to deal with that stylist in the future.

I was just thinking about your situation the other day and was wondering how if what resolved. Glad to hear that "Norma" is not there any more!

Wow! I am really glad. I remember reading your OP quite a while ago and just gasping. :guilty:

My kids got their hair trimmed and glitzed up on our last trip and the experience was just great. (my little one even wound up on GAC TVs top 20 countdown!!) I am really sorry your experience was so awful. Hopefully you'll give it another go and it will be wonderful. :wizard:

Lives4Disney :goodvibes

This is the first time I've ever heard of any problems at the Barber Shop. Personally, I love taking my kids there and have never had a bad experience -- with either ds' or dd.

As far as cost goes, barbers in my neck of the woods (and I mean that literally as well as figuratively) charge $16. We figure the MK Barber Shop is a bargain.

AH...........Days later and the infamous haircut is still being debated. As many have stated, it is hair and it will grow back. The chosen word is COSMETOLOGY, not COSMOTOLOGY(sounds like something to do with outer space :lmao: ). While this particular experience was bad, spreading that woman's name all over the internet to anyone who will read it is SLANDER. If it was as bad of a haircut as the OP states, why then, was it not worthy of a visit to Guest Relations right then? Yes, "junior" was upset, but if this cut was so terrible, there is no justification that the line was too long at Guest Relations or that the time needed to be used calming him down.
I brought up the subject of compensation and the OP denied wanting any. Another poster complained about a "new" shop clerk who made her cry :rotfl2: , and she willingly accepted $200.00 for dinner from a manager at Boardwalk. People are always wanting something, regardless of what they claim. I found it troubling that the OP took her son to another Disney salon and the salon was willing to cut his hair while he was asleep. Imagine waking up in a barber's chair getting a haircut :confused3 .This is the same child who had such a bad cough that the OP had a thread going about taking the child to WDW with croup. It sounds as if there was a non-magical moment for you, but there is no way to justify spreading the stylists name across the DIS based upon one person's opinion. Granted, I was NOT there, but a thread warning parents to be cautious would serve more purpose than posting the woman's name in an attempt to have her terminated or relocated based upon one experience. :firefight

She did not slander anyone. She posted a warning to her disfriends, so that we would know which "stylist" to avoid. She told the truth, how is that slander? And yes, I can fully understand not wanting to stand on a long line with an upset child. DO you have any children?? If my child was that upset I would also leave. Telling guest relations at the hotel works also. The OP did nothing wrong, but leaving or by telling us. The OP major concern was her child, not compensation. She is an excellent parent putting her child first.
She did not post the women's name here to have her terminated or relocated. How can posting here do that?? She posted her to give us a head's up. She wrote her letter to WDW to inform them, and let them decide how to handle the situation.

THANK YOU OP for letting us know who to avoid if we want our children's haircut at WDW. I for one, appreciate it very much!!!!

a false report maliciously uttered and tending to injure the reputation of a person. (Webster's dictionary)

Nope. It wasn't slander.

(Oh, wouldn't you just leave it to an attorney's wife to get picky! :rotfl: )

Thank you for taking the time to post here - I really appreciate both the original post explaining YOUR experience, as well as a follow up - thank you!!

Why would you have to have his hair cut down in Disney? My kids know and they the lady who cuts thier hair. They see her at least every 8 weeks.

Let me try and explaiin why I want to do this - ummm

Its DISNEY....

ITS different... its special... its DISNEY.... :wizard: I know when we were there loooking at others that had the gels and glitter, and goo in there hair, I thought - good for them!! I should do that for my kids!! (kids of all ages of course!! You're never to old to be a kid in Disney... imho)

Glad Disney made you an offer that you were happy with. (and I am glad she is gone.) When we went last year there was one woman that wasn't the most personable but her real problem was than she couldn't cut hair!
My oldest son likes this place(he is 11!) He likes crazy hair and is into the whole colored gel and even the sparkles. So we will probably get his hair cut there as well(and maybe first haircut for the baby!!)
