horns on st thomas

i dont know if it was just me or not, but did anyone else notice on st thomas that every car driving by beeps their horn.
is this to get you to move out of their way, or something they do for fun?

I don't know about St Thomas, but it is very common in other parts of the Caribbean. I was told they do it to let oncoming traffic and pedestrians know they were coming.
