Does the Magic play "horn tag' with the other ships on the wertern cruise?

Which port and what time of day?

I don't remember that happening on the Western we were on in May because it seemed like we were the last ship to leave port each day!

It happened everywhere on the Eastern cruise, and I don't think it ever happend on the Western. My guess is that the other ships don't want to play anymore. That horn really gets the attention of the cruisers on those other ships!!

On the Eastern Cruise we seemed to be docked closer to the other ships, sometimes just the width of the pier seperating us (St. Maarten) and other times we were Bow to Aft in a long line (it almost seemed like the ships were touching).

On the Western Cruise, at Key West we were the only ship to dock "Downtown". The other ships were docked quite a distance away (and they had a long trip from their dock to downtown!!)

In Grand Cayman the ships are anchord in the harbor and once again the other ships were parked a ways away from us.

In Cozumel we were the only ship docked at Punta Langusta, the other ships were at the older dock and were a very long distance away. I don't remember if we could see the other ships when we were docked:confused:

You also have to consider the time at which you leave the port. The ships do not sound their horns at night, for instance at Key West, especially if there is only one docked. (This is the case with the Magic on the Western cruise. It is the last ship to leave the port.)

When we were on the Eastern in 2001 only the Majesty of the Seas was in St. Maarten and only the Grand Princess was in St. Thomas and neither sounded their horn when we left.

Was hoping to hear what others have reported in their trip reports.

My hubby and I had the pleasure of hearing the "Horn Wars" as I called it on our Eastern cruise this past Dec 2002.
We were in St Maarten and as we were all leaving port at the end of the day the Explorer of the Seas (one of Royal's mega ships) was honking every minute or so really closly to us. The Grand Princess where there as well as THREE Holland America ships.
Once in a while the Magic would do just a generic honk (not the "When you wish upon a star") to match all the other ships. Then of of the blue would do the special horn 2 or 3 times in a row.
On the top deck of the Magic we were all doing the wave at the Explorer and they were doing the same back to us.
Everyone on the Explorer and the Grand were screaming for the Magic to do the COOL horn and when the Magic finally did the other ships went absolutely nuts cheering for us! It was amazing!
They were all so jealous of us with our super cool horn! :p
