Today, I would like to talk about the WDW Space Mountain. This Space Mountain may be old fashioned from all the rest around the world, but its style makes it look like the original Horizons ride from Epcot. Yes, Space Mountain is similar to Horizons. First, they both have space in them and take place in the future. What's slightly different about them is that Horizons took guests through a space colony while Space Mountain takes them through a space station. In SM, there are lighted panels that count down to blast-off from across the boarding areas and by the hill climbs with a long blue-lighted strobe tunnel in between. Horizons also had lighted panels and a tunnel, only that both of those things were put together in the same place. In Horizons, visitors would choose how their ride ended by either going through space, over a desert, or under the sea. A big screen would then move along in front of the vehicle giving the guests the exhilaration of traveling through what they chose. As visitors ride on SM, it is like the same thing when choosing the space ending, only that its close to the real thing. One last thing that Ive noticed is that towards the exit of SM, there is a backdrop of a futuristic city of another world. In Horizons, after arriving at the future, guests would see a backdrop of a city through the windows inside a house. Believe it or not, the spirit of Horizons still resides in SM.
